Something else to keep in mind is that Star Convoy wasn't the only Battlestar who had a Micromaster partner. All three of them did.

Sky Garry came with Shotbomber, and Grandus had Spinner.

Walmart Retro G1 Deluxe figures have leaked, first two are Bumblebee and Gears:

They are skewing to toy deco, and dammit if it has taken Hasbro 3 attempts to get an almost perfect toy Bumblebee from that Netflix mold. As is, I'm disappointed they didn't do more to skew to the toy design. Even just swapping in the Goldbug head would have "pretty close", but I would have jumped all over with a proper battlemask.

Bumblebee IS speaking to me given the "better colors" and seeming omission of clear plastic. Might be enough for me to get rid of WFC Bumblebee and just go with this one...

Listings have indicated a Brawn and Seaspray as well

Oh my.

Oh my my my my my.

Those look good. Like, really good.

And I'm usually a stickler for show-accuracy.

Just painting Bumblebee's eyes silver to be 'toy accurate' is silly lmao.

Don't they have a Goldbug head they could have used?

Either way, I love that Gears. The colors are great and I'm a sucker for sculpted and painted sticker detail.

Walmart listings are included, probably went live early. I’d bet these weren’t supposed to go up before the CollectorCon garbage they were going to do this week. Given the craptacular luck I’ve had with Walmart’s preorder system…I’m going to take my chances on Hasbro Pulse.

Though, barring a major change in budgets, Bumblebee feels like a prime candidate for a reissue…eventually. I kind of wonder if this release and the SS86 figures combined to keep the VW figure from being reissued?

Well, I like the Fallen/Megatronus a lot, though as usual I am iffy on rubbery flame effects given what they keep doing to the surrounding plastic on occasion, and I hope the staff/blade isn't a rubbery painted plastic that will turn sticky. I do hope it's 'stable', and is still around when my budget is a bit better off.

On the other hand, while this team has brought up Thunderwing as something they'd like to try, and a 'full' Bludgeon hasn't occurred since G1, I do wonder now if the "What will the next Haslab be even though the most recent hasn't even closed yet" people were right, and Thunderwing might be it. He and Bludgeon are both characters associated with the Matrix and/or the Primes and/or the Fallen, are probably the two most recognized Pretenders, and that gimmick has been hard to figure out the budget for in modern production. Actually, I could easily see a 2 pack of them in 'full Pretender' form as a Age of the Primes tie-in Haslab, as it would let them be made without worrying about what category they'd fall into, and leverage their tie-in fiction with the Matrix/The Fallen without risking a Hazlab slot on a 'critical' character.

Of course, it'll probably just be a giant Primus.

IMO Thunderwing is easy, combine modern Pretenders with POTP leader idea. Thunderwing's shell is already capable of changing forms. Have normal Thunderwing as a smaller vehicle, probably taking inspiration from the last Thunderwing we got and be sorta a Drone plane, that connects to the Shell's larger spaceship/jet mode. Then have him combine some how in Robot mode. Kinda like a Decepticon Star Saber in a way.

I'm not sure how you'd make regular pretender shells interesting like with Bludgeon. But those that had transforming shells shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, I guess the Ultra Pretenders are just an extension of the "combines with trailer into a super mode" aesthetic started with PM Optimus.

Really it's the normal pretender "Transformer hiding in an action figure" that seem hard for Hasbro to pin down.

That's why I thought of a Thunderwing/Bludgeon two pack, a MegaPretender big draw, and the smaller 'normal' Pretender (presumably with modern upgrades, however that might work). I mainly got the idea from how they did Omega Prime, and then mixed it with all the speculation threads. Seeing the Fallen go to "War Within" brought it to mind, as Bludgeon was a main player there but the most recent versions of Bludgeon don't quite work with him.

Edit: Closest would be probably the TFSS version, that looked like the inner robot mode, but that was both an exclusive and a while back, so I doubt it counts.

I am so glad we’re getting flaming demon The Fallen. And, like others, I hope the flames are finally an improvement over the current effect rubbery parts. Ah well, we can but hope. Otherwise, The Fallen looks beefy, Imposing and demonic. With a big gun and big sword. WFC Gamer Prime or fractured friendships Orion Pax may not be War Within Prime, but either would look good facing off against this guy.

The Fallen looking so good makes me kinda wish Vector Prime were more than a Jhiaxus retool. I mean, he’s a good retool. I just wish he was…more I guess.

EDIT:
Also, The Fallen is going to look pretty good next to Nova Prime.

I like that, even though Megatronus is primarily based on his initial Dreamwave design, he at least pulls in influences from other versions via his weapons. He's got the Requiem Blaster from PotP, with a barrel and arm-mounted like the CoP design. Then he has his sword/spear thing from RiD, combined with his spark fuser. I didn't catch any direct RotF references, but his RiD weapon definitely calls his RotF staff to mind too.

The tank barrel definitely makes me wonder if this is also a first look at what we can expect from SS86 Megatron. We've certainly seen quite a few instances at this point of characters that share engineering and a few parts while having mostly unique tooling. I could definitely imagine that happening here.

So we got some art of this line's version of the Thirteenth, and it looks like Star Convoy meets Powermaster Optimus?
Oh Hasbro, you dogs. They are going to get us on this Star Convoy/PMOP hybrid for this year’s Titan…then get us to double dip in a year or two for a PROPER PMOP. That said, what I can see IS speaking to me, so we’ll see how “Titan Star Convoy” turns out next year when it gets actually revealed.

I’m digging The Fallen. I like how they’ve incorporated multiple aspects of the Fallen/Megatronus character and the end result is something that I think is pretty solid. I like the inclusion of the flame effects and the decision to add in some of that rich purple that Prime Wars Megatronus had really add some nice depth to the color range.
Assuming he ships with G2 Grimlock and not a Legacy carryover like Overcharge, not only will be the rare Leader I get at release, I might even end up getting the entire case for both!

I’m a bit mixed on the packaging. I don’t mind the standardized proportions (I welcome them, really), but I’m not sure I care for how similar Generations and Studio Series now look on the shelves. To me, it almost feels like a continued effort to make these appeal more to discerning “adult fans and collectors”…but in doing so it kind of sucks a lot of the spark of fun from brands like Transformers.

If they get Star Convoy's vehicle mode right, I'll live with the mishmash robot mode. If it's just Powermaster Optimus Prime with some Star Convoy details in robot mode, I'm not going to be happy.
