What stupid thing did the GOP say or do this time? Episode 3!

There isn't a violin small enough to convey my lack of sympathy. Like, I don't want to just not acknowledge it, because then it looks like I just didn't see it. I want a violin small enough to accurately show that I did see it and don't care. But I don't think such a microscopic instrument exists.

I think a giant violin would better convey how little you care. You play it at a normal volume when they start talking, then when they talk louder to try to be heard over it, you can play it loud enough to drown them out. Then you keep exceeding their volume until they get the point and stop talking, after which you continue to play loudly until they leave the room, then you play even louder to make sure that they hear it until they've walked a few blocks away.

I don't know what's more disgusting, that a Republican is openly saying "Of course we're making deals under the table; we aren't rich enough to stop being greedy!" or that AOC is agreeing with him.

Congressional salaries are kind of sticky situation. There ARE some strong arguments in favor of increasing their pay, but at the same time a lot of congress members really don't need the money. Maybe their pay rate should be based on total income. Kind of a progressive pay-scale like we do with income tax... You're raking in 20 million a year in book sales, you get a salary of 10k, you're only living off your salary, you get 500k...

Frankly: the act of public service while already rich by any standard of the society should be volunteer. Are you worth more than a million dollars? Yeah, you get your travel reimbursed, maybe some meal vouchers. Because actively working to keep the country in order and serving the public? Your payment is warm fuzzies.

Do you not have a million dollars? Okay, you get travel reimbursed, maybe some meal vouchers, and... let's be generous: 1.5 times the average income. Oh, and all the warm fuzzies from making life better for hundreds of millions of people. You're welcome.

But hey, while we're dreaming: let's make summary execution the defacto punishement for violating your oath, and let's make the suspicion of it sufficient cause. Cause fear is the best reason to behave.

I mean, theoretically this is what the second amendment was for, but the founders of our country were being overly optimistic about what kind of people would resort to violence to solve their problems. Let's not make the same mistake.

They would be the people they need to be if the government wasn't incentivized to keep them stupid by destroying public education.

Yeah, we knew that, because they still haven't stopped lying about the results in 2020. Because people like kari lake are still throwing tantrums on the state level. Because the very latest conspiracy is that democrats are letting millions upon millions of illegals into the country specifically to vote in november.

Get yourself, your friends, your family registered to vote. Make sure they make it to the polls, and try to convince them to vote blue all the way down the ticket. The insanity ends in december if democrats win enough seats.

A failed insurrection that isn't swiftly punished is a dress rehearsal.
Except, again, this time they won't have a sitting President on hand to order law enforcement to stand down. And for all my pessimism about cops and the military, if Biden orders the National Guard to start busting white heads, then white heads are going to get busted.

Republicans never lose faith in one of their preferred news sources no matter how many times it's proven wrong. Even if they're forced to pay a huge settlement and admit in court that they lied systematically and repeatedly for YEARS, Republicans continue to believe that they are the gold standard of news.

That's like a religious cult that way. It reminds me of the nutjobs who predict a date for the end of the world using "Biblical analysis" and then refuse to concede that their whole approach was wrong when that date comes and goes without incident.

So yesterday or the day before Trump's lawyer actually tried to argue that a sitting president could order a seal team to kill his political opponents and as long as he wasn't impeached and convicted in the Senate, he couldn't be tried in court.

So Biden, take notes. lol.

Yeah Trump's whole legal argument is that the President is above the law is not the legal argument he wants to make.

Ironbite-a whole lot of stupid can come about from that.

He's not trying to argue whether or not he committed all kinds of crimes, he's arguing that he had the right to do it. It's basically an extended and very public confession. If and when this ever actually goes to court, that's gonna go over like a fart in church.
