If he had gotten his way: he would have very quietly, very hypocritically gone to some other country, gotten the procedure done there, and then happily have a super pac write the whole thing off as a fact finding mission.
Haley and DeSantis are finding out the hard way that they can't market themselves as the successor to Trump while Trump is still alive and out of prison and able to run against them. (And you can bet that as long as he remains both of those things, he will keep running year after year.) But at the same time, you aren't going to get enough Republican voters interested in you if you don't market yourself as the successor to Trump either.
