oddly going light side to dark side is more forgiving than the other way around in most rp settings.

who ever is on the darkside that wants to give you powers never seems to care how good you use to be... but it always seems to be a struggle to come back to good once you've done a bit of bad.

Red Mage it is then I guess- jack of all trades and a master of none

It depends. Dark side is often framed as wanting to corrupt and wanting as much power as possible. Often that being raw numbers. Light is often framed as wanting the best. There's also the trust issue of not knowing if the formerly dark person can be trusted.

Patch's case is different since the connection could have been reestablished. Originally, this what I expected and what I had plans for before the old site went down. It's just that in requesting YPNR's most important tome, she chose a fourth option. Using a sort of YPNR magic has fascinating implications for her epilogue.

The third option would have been Cinniúint.

Ah. Patch connected to a Goddess of luck and Chance would have been interesting. But yeah, a magic focused through math and numbers. There’s some intriguing ways to take that.

Plus, the idea of a Math God sounds funny. :)

My view of "mathemagic" is that it's more of an elemental magic than anything, a way of harnessing the laws of the universe in a direct way. It was an idea I had of how to restore Patch's abilities after becoming human again that seemed to fit the situation, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense that someone we first met as a neat freak librarian would be attracted to numbers and logic. And it helped to show her character growth - she found something to like about the place she had loathed and feared for so long.
