So I am debating getting these guys. I have a Titan class Devastator, and I am happy with it. However, I am debating getting these to have them in bot mode. Is that crazy?

No, having Titan Devestator in combined mode at all times and keeping the new, better individual 'bots in individual modes isn't a bad way to enjoy both.

It actually makes sense if you want the sense of 'size change' that no toy can actually accomplish. And don't get me wrong, I'm not stopping everything. Like recently, my nephew was watching the OLD movie (again and again) and so for Halloween for him, I got him the two-pack of dead Ratchet and Prowl (improved a bit with the shoulder guns from blue Bluestreak, he and I both managed to break ours in different ways, so I rebuilt them into one good one for him, one parts-box backup bot for me, and Prowl gets his guns back).

Burn my toys upon the pyre with me, that I may show them to the gods in Valhalla.
Some god: "Tell us, mortal, why you believe humanity should be spared from our wrath."

Mollusk: "Feast your eyes... on this!" *holds up a lump of melted plastic* "It, uh... looked a lot cooler before the whole fire thing. Honest."

*humanity dies*

A theory on why Galvatron's finally the right blurple (or at least closer than the Kingdom toy)

The original third leg of the WfC trilogy was supposed to be '86 movie themed. Siege- pre war ER- '84-'85 XXXX- '86 movie and season three.

However it was around the time they had to plan out that third leg that Hasbro's brand team finally got the message that the fans wanted more BW. Constant fan demands around brand anniversaries and Primal winning the Next Prime poll in PotP finally got through to them and the decision was made to make the third leg of WfC BW themed.

Still, it was believed that there needed to be some G1 in there- either because someone didn't fully believe in BW or that there weren't enough BW characters to fill out a full line or both- so the '86/season 3 WFC season three lineup was split. Half went to supplement BW Generations stuff in Kingdom while half got put into Studio Series as "Studio Series '86."
This was a huge deal because up until then Studio Series had been exclusively the domain of live action characters. Still, it wasn't like they just shunted some Generations stuff to the Studio Series label.

Generations had never been super picky about screen accuracy. In fact ER was full of positively toy-centric decos in some places. If "Studio Series '86" was going to work they couldn't give those toys whatever preliminary Generations decos they may have had, they had to be very screen/Sunbow accurate.

Galvatron in all of this was shunted into Kingdom. Meaning his deco was probably under looser constraints (the battle damage being proof of that). It didn't have to be screen accurate per se, just capture the "essence" of the character.

Hasbro at the time probably wasn't sure if SS '86 would work. It was a last second change to accommodate a decision to feature BW in the WfC trilogy.
When it did work they expanded it... and suddenly now they need to redo Galvatron in Sunbow blurple because circumstance kept that from happening back in Kingdom.

From a fan perspective it looks like this should have been the deco all along. From Hasbro's perceive, though, SS '86 and Generations aren't exactly 1:1 and a lot of product shifts resulted in this deco not being something that was even planned earlier. Circumstances got whacky and here they are.

I agree that BW was added in late into things, but You forget/leave out that 2021 was an aniversy for both TFTM and BW. So the only way for them to do both, was to divide the original Kingdom plan and put some of the 86 characters in the Studio series line, since it was still a movie. That way they could put some BW characters out and not go over budget.
