I would really hope if they were gonna do Energon, that not everyone would be half assed retools.
Gee, thanks.

Of course I'd vastly prefer if some got the Sideways, Starscream, Hot Shot treatment. Just trying to manage my own expectations given what capsules have tended to be composed of (even Override was a surprise replacing a half-assed retool plan, iirc).

My wild hope is that one of the Energon homages is a new Omnicon.

Combining wasn't the only gimmick in that line.

Combining in Energon was Autobot exclusive, none of the Decepticons did any combining outside of Tidalwave, but then he is a partsformer to start with and Energon in terms of story is one of the worst TF shows as it was clearly rushed with no actual story planned out for the whole season! I had completely forgot about the Omnicons until today, which shows how little impact they really had!

If I was to revisit the line for updating, I would kind of do Ironhide but make sure the robot mode head actual can hide in vehicle mode instead of how it was in the show, Optimus I would revisit but for the Drones, would have them be seperate figures, kind of similar to the Bluebolts in the Haslab Omega Prime, but also being able to combine with Optimus and also be the drones, while Megatron I would do as a leader class figure, not some puny scout/legends/core class, whatever they call the smallest size these days

And the two Maximus combiners. But if you're going by the show, the combined forms were the default, so it's more like they're splitting apart, I guess. Not like they did much with them anyway.

I LOVED the Energon stars and weapons! Especially in new (and annoyingly exclusive) colors!

I do have an Energon question I haven't found any solid answer for:

Did the Sam's Club Energon Prowl (Arm. Red Alert) and Starscream (Arm. Starscream) set come with a Tech Spec card(s) that Energon figures Deluxe and above come with? The K-Mart Prowl and Checkpoint came with one so there was precedent.

These are the collector oriented Generations line, dang it! There is to be no fun, here!

What do you think these are, toys?

Picked up prima and red at walmart over the last two days, prima feels like a solid investment lol... but red, man .... having had the original, this one damn do I really feel the down grade. Half the bot, for twice the price. And it isn't even a bad toy. It's just... there's no woo woo woo
I don't have AotP Red Alert but...

... if I'm being real...

... as a kid the woo woo woo annoyed me, and I always wished the articulation was better. So it sounds like I'll like this.

I do find it odd that some segments of the Transformers fandom these days are trying to push the notion that kids don't care about articulation.

I mean... when I was a kid... I definitely noticed when my toys couldn't move like I wanted them to.

Like yeah, ideally we'd get a world where all the spring loaded gimmicks and lights and sounds were paired with modern articulation but who's gonna double Hasbro's budgets across the board and keep the prices relatively the same?
We already got the gimmick-laden version of these designs. Getting the articulated version now is a-ok with me.
And I don't think kids will mind.

Hasbro still puts out toys that focus more on gimmicks over articulation. They just do it in the lines they specifically market to kids and that (seemingly) most of the fandom derides or at least has little to no interest in.

I gotta say, I don't miss the lights and sounds at all and was glad to see them eventually get priced out of the toys. Hasbro has shown proficiency at tapping into lots of other play patterns and catchy elements that wouldn't hobble an individual toy as much (or necessitate unwieldy proportions). And these days, idk, kids get a lot of their lights and sounds fix from other sources anyway.

And yeah, I dispute the supposed lack of appeal for articulation, and frankly suspect the claim comes from a false dilemma. I can see kids not specifically needing their toys to have ankle tilts or an crunches or finger articulation that only ever leads to one thing anyway, but there's a reason articulation became such a premium until it became a standard across numerous action figure genres: a generation of kids grew up wanting their toys to have more of it. I don't think the pendulum has swung the other way and that kids now prefer bricks.

I think it's an age thing.

Gimmicks appeal to younger audiences, articulation appeals to older ones, and the older kid market for toys has been steadily drying up for the last 30 years, being replaced with the adult market.

I don't miss having projectiles fire across the room and into the clutter, never to see the light of day again.
And I don't miss only being able to really see Optimal Optimus's missiles light up correctly right before shooting me in the eye, leaving ME never to see the light of day again.

...OK, so it didn't really blind me. Can't say it was particularly pleasant though!
