    Anti-Semitism

Looks like that, basically. The Reform party were barely registering on polls until Farage announced he was standing for MP (again) and was coronated Reform leader. Now he’s appearing on television daily, getting much more news coverage than the LibDems and Greens, who both actually have...

    Anti-Semitism

(Direct link to article.) If you’ve not been following the Uk general election campaign, the far-right Reform party is surging in opinion polls, and this is the sort of candidate that the party is inducing on towns like mine.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jun/21/russia-was-provoked-into-ukraine-war-claims-nigel-farage Farage’s party is estimated by some polls to come second in the election next month, and he’s so blatantly a Russian asset.

Northern Ireland is voting too. However, they have different political parties to the rest of the UK, and those parties don’t join the British government. That’s the most likely reason why they were left out of the map.

Some of the recent electoral forecasts from opinion polling companies are wild. Few months ago I still assumed that the Tories would be in power for another decade…

Depressingly, that’s similar to how our elections work. Where I live it’s always a foregone conclusion, well, except this time my area is forecast to go non-Tory for the first time since 1922 due to the weird circumstances. It’s a very frustrating state of affairs, particularly as we don’t have...

    The dangers of religious privilege

Ironic, given Louisiana was originally bought from France, the most aggressively state-secularist nation on Earth. Well, apart from the communist countries. (Louisiana is doing that unconstitutionally, right?)

Provisional results. Not exactly the far-right takeover some media are claiming, once all the countries participating are totalled up.

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

I think the main issue is that they purged loads of their Remain-ish MPs prior to and during the 2019 election, and they’re left with a load of crazies and also-rans who’d otherwise be at best junior ministers. That and the usual fatigue and churn from 14 years in power. (Tory adverts seem to...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjmmrwexv4ko The Reform party is OK with one of their candidates saying Britain should’ve appeased Hitler. Great.

Conspiracy lunatic thread - people who believe in absurd nonsense are dangerous

I heard teachers at school vary between the two of those claims. Although the most common ‘explanation’ was that the fossils were put there to “test faith” and that the flood somehow artificially aged the Earth. (Yes, this was in supposedly normal state schools in England. Didn’t go to a...

https://news.sky.com/story/amp/rishi-sunak-apologises-for-returning-from-d-day-ceremony-early-13149195 Idiot Sunak put his foot in it, leaving the D-Day commemorations in France early for a television interview in the UK. That isn’t going down well with target Tory voters, as you can imagine.

I saw that Biden has condemned bans on trans healthcare. That makes him automatically much more progressive on LGBTQ rights issues than any of the leaders of the parties currently contesting the British general election.

Him and his shitty little far-right party get so much media attention, particularly from the BBC, when they have a few local councillors and no MPs. OTOH, the media’s election coverage barely registers the LibDems and Greens, who have a lot more elected representatives each. Farage and his...

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Well, the Tories are leaning very hard right at the moment, both on economics and nationalism / culture war rhetoric. They’ll certainly double down on that after the election, particularly if one of their crazies becomes Tory leader. In that case, it’d be preferable if the culturally liberal and...

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tories-general-election-2024-poll-projection-seats-wipeout-b2555671.html Bit sceptical of this to be honest, but some polling estimates the Liberal Democrats will end up with more seats than the Tories, with even the current prime minister losing...

    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

I don’t get how a certain section of his followers seem to idolise him as proper traditional masculine man, an alpha male, when he’s such a self-pitying, self-obsessed wanker.
