    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

It pretty much has to be something along the lines of "After all, January 6th was a love-fest. Maybe there were a few violent ones out there (probably liberals), and THEY should be punished, but not all of OUR lovely people, who did nothing wrong."

A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... - Star Wars General Discussion

There's definitely a difference in how money is spent in the streaming era. Many streaming shows, despite having only a few episodes a season, cost many times the amount per episode (even after accounting for inflation) compared to their pre-streaming counterparts.

A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... - Star Wars General Discussion

I very much hear that. It takes WAY too long between seasons (for too few episodes per season) in this era of streaming. That said, this is the first assurance I've gotten that Ahsoka Season 2 is actually happening (and in live action) after so many streaming services have been cutting their...

This isn't new by now (and I'm not a boomer), but I will continue to reject your "we must be as bad as those we oppose" rhetoric until the day I die.

Indeed, he doesn't NEED to stage a coup while he has all the power GIVEN to him by the people's vote.

Timey Wimey Business- a thread for Doctor Who

I disagree. Even if we DID figure it out, it needed the caption at the end to spell it out (however inaccurately. Even if you believe that Jesus WAS born in Bethlehem, no serious scholar puts the date in year "1," let alone on the equivalent of December 25th). Can you imagine all the folks...

Not that this is any better, but I read that to say that this will apply to people who invest a billion or more in the US. Merely having so much money won't cut it. It's still awful, but the difference is important to me.

Leak of New Swapticons Gimmick Line

I still have the fidget spinners with Prime's and Megatron's faces on them from a few years back.

I'm intrigued by the news on the front page. Cheap, fidgety. I look forward to seeing them in stores.

The Twit destroying Twitter is a Twaitor

Even granting that Twitter owns the tweets, I'm not convinced the courts would find that assertion enough to prevent the sale. It seems a pretty spurious argument, to me.

The Twit destroying Twitter is a Twaitor

Well, it's at least a reminder that Musk doesn't think you own your social media accounts. I'm curious to learn how the courts decide.

A professor I used to work for would buy a new Volvo in Europe every few years, drive it around while he was on his sabbatical over there, then ship it to his home here in the US. Apparently doing so got him a great deal between exchange rates and tax laws qualifying the car as "used" by the...

    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

Depends on what needle you're talking about. Will people "wise up"? Probably not. But people can and will be reliably depended upon to punish incumbants when the economy is bad. So long as voting power is not, itself, taken away (not an assumption I make these days), Ungnome's statement is...

But, again, there's confusion of copyright and trademarks here. Disney will continue to hold a trademark on Mickey Mouse even once every single one of the Mickey Mouse cartoons enters the Public Domain, so long as Disney keeps using the character.

Agreed, but my point is that Hasbro's lawyers "took the chance" on that instance because it was so minimal. They're typically VERY risk-averse.

THAT was probably itself just minimalistic enough to win a "Fair Use" exception if a rightsholder decided to sue.

Trademarks and copyrights are different. Trademarks have to be actively used and/or renewed, or someone else can use the mark (usually a name or logo). Copyrights last a long time without need for attention. Long story short, Hasbro can use RiD concepts, since any relevant trademarks either...

The thing is, it's far more about Hasbro's risk aversion (and time efficiency) than about cost-aversion. Hasbro doesn't want to take the time to look into finding out who owns, and ultimately buy, these characters. If they don't know that they already own them, they're going to just move on. It...
