A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... - Star Wars General Discussion

Got around to watching ep3 and, well, I was tickled at the ending. Darn you, you creatives, you! You're manipulating my emotions! Just saying I loved how Neel was tasked as the pilot and Captain Fern and Winn were drafted as gunners. KB knew what was up and started feeding the coordinates, but, I dunno, an acknowledgement nod from Crimson Jack would have been cool.

Also greatly enjoyed Kh'ymm owl spelling. I would have loved seeing some more stellar detective work, have the kids learn some galactic info like details on the *cough* Star Wars that they missed from being sheltered.

When it was revealed that it was X-Wings she called, I was actually startled. Hmm...

SM33 still fave character and I hope Jack doesn't sabotage kill him during this adventure.

I didn't get what you folks were talking about (what new ship) so I'm just going to get back to speed first.

Edit - saw up to ep 6. Gosh darn, I'm really enjoying this now.

Ep4 with Neel doing peace stuff could have been a little more subtle, especially with the other lady but I had a bit of Saving Private Ryan imminent death chills when the army was sending them to their deaths into the mist. If it wasn't aimed at kids, I'd assume they were sent out as scouts to be shot up?
Then SM33 at the end... geez!

Ep5 was Gooning Goonie-ing so hard, hahaha. The kids enjoying themselves is obviously being shoed in. It sorta sometimes doesn't work (Fern can let her guard down but KB is stonecold). Great Devil's planet whatever, luv it. The anti grav can't be for kids, geez. The acid was crazy.

Ep6 bit of a lull but the ground scene was low key terrifying. I can imagine it being filmed not for kids and ratcheting up the tension to motion picture levels. And the ending! I kept repeating it over and over. Would have had Winn get one good thing in but that could have been pushing it. Still, loved it.

Saw ep7. So much deaths! Still ok for kids to watch since not explicit, right?

We don't know what timeline this is, right? I'd love it if a Jedi appears at the end, like de aged Luke Skywalker appearing in Mandalorian.

If a Jedi would appear tho, I would want it to be Kanan. Ashoka is still stuck at the far end of the galaxy. Kanan is cooler anyhow. Or maybe Kelleran Beq.

We know it is after Return of the Jedi. Alderaan is gone and the government sends X-Wings. So it won't be Kanan.

This episode made me start to accept the idea that Jod really is just a villain. Not for sure, but he is cutting it really close.

There has been speculation for weeks that Tak Rennod went and took over At Attin and is the supervisor. They are probably onto something, but I now think they might be looking at it backwards. Could be that the supervisor played at being Rennod to keep At Attin safe. He did destroy the coordinates in at least one place. If i was long enough ago, he might have been able to find a Brinks ship offworld, but it is likely that he came from At Attin and took the ship out with him and got rid of any evidence that would lead there and made it seem more like a silly legend. Maybe he did it after he knew the Republic had fallen just because it was a happy place to live and he didn't want it all to fall apart.

... that idea kinda blows my mind.

It better not be Winn's dad. (Or mom? Did SM33 specify that his captain was male? I forget)

Yeah, right now I feel that one way or another Tak is the Supervisor; both characters we've never seen and both being talked about constantly. That was my suspicion while watching the episode, and this theory kinda makes it more plausble,

We heard Rennod's voice and it was male. The Supervisor was voiced by Stephen Fry in episode 7.

Okay, now I'm caught up (couldn't watch over the holidays).

Loving it so far. Loved SM-33's Very Satisfying Punch (which kinda gave the lie to Fern's earlier comment that droids can only do what you tell them to --33 was clearly looking for an excuse).

And Jod is a fascinating kind of villain we haven't had in the new canon; we've had plenty of Sith and Sith-wannabes, but this is the first time we've actually seen a fallen Jedi, someone who has thoroughly broken from the Order, but doesn't want to become the next Emperor or feed on the pain of billions. He's just a bastard with Force-sensitivity.

(I also love that when Jod blew up at the kids for all their flaws he didn't say anything specifically about KB. Because she's perfect. No notes.)

We have our new Baylan Skoll.
I just saw that and was coming to post about it.

I think that he could do a great job here. Stevenson left some big shoes to fill, but I look forward to see where his character goes in season 2.

I was disappointed by the casting news. Not because I know anything about the actor or how we will do, but because it reminds me that they haven't even started.

I very much hear that. It takes WAY too long between seasons (for too few episodes per season) in this era of streaming.

That said, this is the first assurance I've gotten that Ahsoka Season 2 is actually happening (and in live action) after so many streaming services have been cutting their output. So that's good news.

after so many streaming services have been cutting their output. So that's good news.

The reasons for the cut in output is:
1. Higher pay for the union people (result of the resent strikes)
2. To focus on stuff people will actually watch
3. Lack of free money, thus costs need to be cut down

The strikes has altered the game dramatically, but then this is apart of the course correction as the streaming wars are pretty much over and Disney lost as they are fourth or fifth place last I checked with Youtube & Netflix being the biggest

The issue started well before the 2023 strike. Netflix has been doing short seasons and putting long pauses between seasons for well over a decade at this point. The other streaming services just followed suit. I will agree that a LOT of it does have to do with money, though. People simply forgot how to make shows on a tight budget, they seem to think that every shot of every show needs to look like a million bucks and needs to use famous talent. TV used to be where up-and-coming actors would get their start and those fading from the limelight would go to continue to work. The prestige tv era that started with HBO originals changed all that.
