It's a real shame. I can't imagine there were no improvements that could've been feasibly made on a CW style combination with the torso bots going up TWO price points. But despite that sizeable upgrade, we went from "connect five bots together add fists and feet" to "connect five bots to like...
I don't always agree with their design choices or their rationales, but I truly appreciate this design team.
And that Iron Factory thing is hilariously bad.
That's it, thank you!
And thank you for this writeup.
I do hope we get more redos or at least package refreshes for Studio Series. Maybe even Buzzworthy style takes that replace the clear plastic, because the tiny connections and fragility concerns keep me from revisiting and enjoying older...
"The English speaking fandom who really should know better" is such a useful catch-all term for so much that's a turnoff about fandom discourse these days.
It may be the perspective, but G1 and CW appear to have an edge there.
I'm stunned at the G1 one being so massive. I'm just realizing I might have never seen one on display in person. And I'm wondering if I've ever even seen one or a reissue in packaging? Maybe not up close.
I like the idea that the Matrix, if containing the wisdom (more than anything else) of past Autobot leaders, reacts differently to its later bearers depending on a number of factors, including their overall character, readiness to learn or earnestness to grow. And maybe the whatevers residing in...
It does have the feel of "let's make the individual robots, then ask, what would aftermarket upgrade kit makers do? We could call ourselves 5th party for extra authenticity, just like the geniuses who don't know how -party labeling works"
Except it won't be Scourge, because only four Transformers exist
And not even "to the general public", because the general public has never heard of Hearts of Steel or whatever else they're going to mine
(it would be hilarious if they eventually started mining other "evergreen bestsellers plus...
The sandbags thing is one of those cases where I can remember seeing tons and tons of cheap bootleggy options available, encountering plastic bags and buckets of cheapo shampoo-bottle plastic one-color soldiers and jeeps and sandbags and rocks... Until they're actually needed, then it turns out...
I was considering the toy style Menasor box set (but the price is well above what I can comfortably swing and then local options disappeared), and am considering Silverbolt to display as a solo Superion (but this might well fall through and the money will just go to Star Convoy).
But...
This was the biggest cold water pouring about that announcement, to me. Sure, I get wanting to play it safe with your flagship characters. But "here's year three of the same four dudes" is already boring upon first announcement. If this were Evergreen/Authentics or whatever I wouldn't blink...
I would absolutely love a whole War Within subline that isn't Titaniums. That Optimus design is one of those things that defines that period for me.
Outside of that there's the Dreamwave G1 Ongoing -- if that's how we get a Sunstorm and a Bumper, so be it.
I'm with you there. There have been a number of customs for CW that made it work. Large Jallguar (I've seen Hot Spot used as a base), Deluxe Leozack essentially winding up as a chestplate. There are lots of ways, especially once free of retail constraints, to accomplish this.
Frankly it's not a...
