I enjoyed the DS versions as well, and you can definitely still feel that that's the control scheme the game was designed for. I have to admit though that I do also enjoy what they've done with the button controls. As much as I struggle with the simultaneous independent trigger streams, it's a fun challenge. And I'm on a bit of a high after I finally managed to get a Perfect Chain on the Theatrhythm JENOVA song on Ultimate, which is filled with a lot of those. Took me a bunch of time in practice mode and a couple dozen full runs through the song to get it.

As for low-focus games during work, that's kinda what Theatrhythm has been for me lately. I'm hearing rumors it might be changing soon, but for right now at least, my company's still doing full-time work from home for most of us. It's kinda nice being able to just run through a song or two here and there when there's a bit of downtime.

Completely agreed about my hands though. Not just cramping, but they just don't want to work with me way too often. There are times where I'm moving my whole hands to hit the triggers because my fingers just don't want to move right. I'm getting way too old.

Like some times during a raid and I die I'm just like "no rush rezzing me. I'm honestly fine like this."

Not gonna lie, most of the time it's because of a frustrating mechanic I just can't get a handle on. But sometimes I just need to give my cramping hands a rest.

Of course, Murphy's law, it's when you need a moment the most that the mages are really on point rezzing everyone.

Slightly off topic: I really enjoyed Hades with the option to get tougher every time you die, but man that game kills my hands fast. I got to Hades once and died, have not felt up for it again.
Hooray!

Fought Hades Extreme with a friend of mine unsynched so many times to get the mount that the last time I did the regular fight on a roulette synched it felt like a marathon.

You know what's funny? I was just going back through the thread and seeing these "now you can unlock" and "now you should try" comments that at the time my little MSQ focused brain was like "hell no, I'm never even going to try that" about, but now I'm like...did i, did it, did it...

Oh yeah, there's a Hades in FF14, too. I was talking about the roguelite game killing my hands, in case that wasn't clear.

I don't play FF14 on my own, I make TMM do all the work and either watch him play or have him summarize it for me if I missed anything while working.

Hades was also the final boss for the last full expansion in FFXI, which is what my mind immediately jumped to. I would really love to get back into that game, but I know it would become a horrendous time sink, eat up money I really shouldn't be spending, and I honestly doubt my 14-year-old computer could play it anymore. Even after recently reformatting it and replacing the RAM, it's only barely chugging along for even the most basic tasks.

Yeah, Hades in FFXIV is very much "we gotta recycle all the lore" and he only goes by the name for one boss fight. Otherwise, he's almost always just Emet Selch (which is explained as being his job title) or sometimes Emperor Solus.

Thanks! Was tough being that precise with all the multi-trigger sections, but at least they weren't too complicated or overwhelming in that song. I tried doing a few other Supreme songs after for comparison. So far, they've all been immediately obvious I'll never manage much more than clearing them, and that only due to a defensive team that's bordering on unkillable.
