The ones in there have been there for over a year now, if not longer, and no sign of anything.

I just wrap my effects parts in tissue paper and store them in a ziplock. The tissue should absorb any of the nasty stuff.

And to think people were asking for a big accessory pack of these blast effects, which ultimately led to the release of Tricranius.

I mean blast effects are still cool as hug just don't like...leave them permanently attached to your figures and store them separately when not in use.
Exactly! I use them all them time when posing for a cool picture or something. Then I take them off and put them back into the container. They're just fine for limited use like that.

They need new material. Literally and figuratively. 3/4s of mine are the Jetfire effects which granted are the best ones but heavily overused by now.

Yeah just look at Star Convoy. Don’t get me wrong, he looks great but comes with a truly ridiculous number of reused blast effects and a new one on top of that. Even then there’s not enough to arm all the small shoulder guns with the same parts!

Magmatron’s another egregious example where he gets a set but can’t really use them. All you had to do was follow the damn train make the Landsaur mouth open wider!

I mean, I thought the point of their use was to be able to further enhance your posing and display options, which... would be kind of a constant use?

Heck, if you're buying any of the Dead Movie Autobots Society, how else are you supposed to display them but taking heavy fire? I thought the entire point was to capture them right in the moment, not when the corpse is cooling?

We may want to spin off the 'plastic ate my toys!' stuff, we don't want to turn it into TFW. For all the issues I have with their often inappropriately hostile posters, they actually have a thread in their toy forum called 'PSA: New toy plastic condition discovered (melted soft rubbery parts)' that's entirely about this for reference and a good list of things impacted going back to 2017. We used to as well before the last crash.

The 'Dead Autobot' situation is a good question, my nephew just got a set and I don't know how to explain the problem to him. Also, what if the parts in question CAN'T be removed, like the CW Airielbot noses and fins? TFSS Shattered Glass Starscream started exhibiting both areas getting 'sticky' on me, and they don't come off. The POTP Decepticon Powermaster jets have the same problem with their fins now.

Here's the figure I spoke of, the MegaConstrux (I think) officer that got repurposed as Commissar Cain. It's hard to get a picture that shows the reality. As I said, whatever those figures are made of does NOT react to the plasticizer that I can tell, but the coat, which used to be a soft floppy rubber, is now a lot harder, and the red cloth sash that looks 'wet' is that way because the goo leaking out wicks into it. I do every so often soap and water him (and I need to repaint some areas due to that) but enough is on the sash that it makes my fingers slimy if I touch it. Plastic breakdown over time is nothing new, but the unpredictable and cross-reactive nature of some of the soft stuff nowadays is irritating. I see the blast effects and others, and then I look at my 'The Other World' toys, ALL soft plastic, from 40 years ago, and they're fine. But then, they may have had this and simply run out as it evaporated. I don't know.

"Gunned Down" Prowl, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Brawn are such weird cases for me because they can really only be displayed "in motion" as it were. Like even Childhood Trauma Optimus makes more sense to me because you could conceivably just have him lying on his deathbed in a display, but those four other dudes seem like they should be displayed mid-murder.

As for blast effects in general.... I donno. To me the ideal use of them is to pop 'em on for a photo shoot and then toss them back in their storage spot, but I do get why people would be pissed at leaving them on thinking they'd be harmless only to find out they're not.

The one blast effect I have in use is one I plugged into Legacy Sideburn's gun and he's holding it like a lightsabre. I may need to check on that when I get home 😅

Well, there's a difference between "part that''s only sticking a small peg/peg hole" and "part that was lying against a characters thigh for six months"

I had Omega Supreme displayed with a blast effect for awhile until I learned about the plasticizer stuff, and when I went to remove it, there was a definite "crack" as it took some of the, i think, paint from the inside of his barral. The i figure is otherwise fine though.

If you have the effects displayed how they're supposed to be displayed, damage should be minimal.

On that note, here is Star Saber and Friends, plus the sword from Fortress Maximus. The odd arrangemnet is actually a bit of a test for Omega Prime, I am looking at taking that shelf and using it for Omega as he's rather tall. I figure if there's clearance for DeathSaurus, it should just about work with Omega. Maybe. His sword will go on a plastic stand with Fortress Maximus's

At least they’re not ROTF Bludgeon. If his sword doesn’t get scuffs all over and his hands are intact, the treads will finish the job.
My RotF Bludgeon experienced a three point critical failure.
Nothing I have ever owned in my TF collection has self destructed like RotF Bludgeon has, and I have a G1 Thunderclash with gold plastic parts!

My ears are burning
My fiancé collects Clone and Storm Trooper figures so I give myself a personal challenge of displaying my TFers more dynamic than that. It's a low bar! But still, goals!

Done.

Just wondering if I should go through and delete any of the copied posts here that don't directly relate to HasLab VicSab.

Thank you! And honestly, couldn't hurt, I was one of the worst offenders on that, as I've had a LOT of issues with the melting rubber...I was going to do it myself but I wasn't sure if it would mess anything up.
