He-Man, and also the Masters of the Universe

So you know how your interest in something has hills and valleys? I'm kinda in a valley right now with MotU. But regardless, here was my Target haul from yesterday.

What can I say? I like Teela and I love that shade of green.

There's nothing wrong with adjusting your buying habits to your preferences! From my own POV I am approaching the end of both my Transformers and MOTU collection, simply because I have what I want and unless something truly amazing comes along, there's not much that will add value for me. Better to enjoy it and not stress than think you have to get something and loose both money and peace of mind!

Mattel dropped their previews for the spring 2025 offerings:
Little overly new, but there were a few Cartoon Collection characters I didn’t know about (Buzz off, Faker, Invisible SKelly).
Faker is interesting as a concept, but it really just is a CC He-Man with a new head. I dig the determined look, but it’s unfortunate to be stuck with a barely changed figure. Skeletor is fun, just because I dig the translucent plastic usage.

I’m still, largely, avoiding Masterverse, but that Flying Fists He-Man is just GORGEOUS. The flair really elevates the figure, as a whole, and Fisto has some classic Barbarian vibes I’m digging. After being unable to get NE Buzz Off, my overall vibe to the line is still rather cool.

Turtles are still my focus with the franchise. Raphael has starting to speak to me. I love the Snake Armor look, and it evokes memories of the “Jim Lee Turtle“ I got at the end of the vintage run. I’m happy with Don, but the other two in the assortment are so good, I might get the whole case. Mekanek, as I’ve said, reminds me a LOT of the 2004 “Snake Armor” variations, and I’m glade to see Clamp Champ take in that vibe as well. Rattlor is fantastic, and the following wave’s Ninjor really stands on his own as well. My biggest letdown with the entire line has been the damn store exclusives. Target isn’t TERRIBLE, but Walmart is just hell. I’ve pretty much given up on getting MerMan at this rate, and have few hopes on King Hiss or Shredder.

Friend and I were discussing earlier...

Part of keeping these lines alive is persistent re-releases of main characters through variants. But the Filmation cartoon didn't really have any variants of He-Man or Skeletor -- nothing like Battle Armor or Terror Claws or Thunder Punch or anything like that.

So what would be the best option for Mattel here? Keep re-releasing the same figures people got before? Make Filmation-styled versions of classic variants like those I named? Or just none of the above?

NGL... despite some temptations, I haven't gotten into the Cartoon Collection, but if they did an animation-styled Thunder Punch He-Man, I might just bite.

I've avoided the cartoon collection myself ..... until that She-Ra comes. Origins doing the Toy version has never sat right with me because I only knew She-Ra from The Secret of the Sword. So cartoon She-Ra is a must have.

Actually got a haul of MotU today between my BBTS loot and some finds at a Toy Show today. Got Turtles of Grayskull Skeletor, Hordak, and April. From Masterverse Snake Sorceress Teela, Emperor Hordak, old school Catra. And the Highlight of the Show haul, Classics Chief Carnivus. I've always wanted The Faceless One and Carnivus from Classics since they never got a figure elsewhere in any MotU line. Still Waiting on a articulated version of the Sorceress from the 200X series.

For whatever reason despite loving he-man in general, I never got attached to the She-Ra characters very much until the modern Princesses of Power show. That show was easily one of the best things ever to come out of the MotU blanket. That's what I'm waiting for. Even if it was just She-Ra and Catra those are what I want from Origins type cartoon design figures.

-ZacWilliam, those designs are just much better than the 80s ones for the She-ra characters imo.

I think the issue I'm having right now is that I already have so many versions of He-Man, Skeletor, Hordak and Teela.

I'm kinda having the same issue with TMNT, except at least they still have a bunch of secondary characters I wouldn't mind having.

MotU also has characters I wouldn't mind having, but they're usually locked behind convention exclusives and online only purchases, meanwhile the only thing I see at brick and mortar stores are yet more versions of the same characters.

Money and space are why I tend to home in on one character from each franchise. Namely, the robot guys, Metalhead and Roboto specifically.

Which is why it sucks so, so very terribly for me that Metal-Boto is a %$#&ing build-a-figure in the crossover line.

That said, I did wind up breaking my rule a bit in Origins. A few times over, even. Always wanted Snake Armor He-Man, but he wasn't released here in the 20XX line, so I got that. And I love Thunder Punch, so I got that. And I still have a soft spot for Skeletor's little dragon, so in he goes... and hey, Battle Armor He-Man was one of my first ever action figures, so...

Yeah, a few more than I'd intended. XP

And I'm still miffed that I'll probably STILL never own a damn Rio Blast, even in spite of me and my self-imposed "rule."

Only a stock photo for Roboto. I NEED to see what it looks like with the normal visor attached before I can make a decision on him. A lot of these figures look great otherwise. I'd still really love to get 1-2 masterverse snake men next year, but they might be holding off after the glut of Origins snake men the past couple of years.

Does anyone know what MOTU X Turtles figure is the 4th and final of the deluxe sets? I have the first 3, and would like to complete the Metal-boto figure.

The mask of Shokoti

(Card art by Roy Juarez)

Of course, if this meant Shokoti herself would be on the way, that would be something interesting. But I'm not holding my breath.
Shokoti will be made…as a Mattel Creations exclusive :p

The final figure is due in a week or two. It’s 2-Bopsteady, a fusion of Bebop and Rocksteady.

My enthusiasm for the deluxe figures dampened SIGNIFICANTLY this past summer when it became nigh impossible for me to get Sla’ker and and the Walmart exclusives. I’m REALLY peeved by how hard MerMan ended up being to find. This distribution woes helped sour me on the entire line to a fair degree.
Still got a few on tap, but not nearly as many as I was originally planning early last spring.

I know 'distribution gripes' are common for any franchise, but when the store that is supposed to carry your exclusives discontinues the entire line on a store by store basis (this being Wal-Mart, many of which no longer carry MOTU at all in their stores, but in no consistent pattern) it confuses the heck out of me. If you make a figure like Necro-Conda, Mer-Man, etc a store exclusive you expect the store to carry it to sell it and make money. I don't see how it's done if the store never stocks the figure, or even the line. Making something exclusive to a store that doesn't sell it makes no sense.

Quoted because I can only like it once.

STOP GIVING EXCLUSIVES TO STORES THAT REFUSE TO SELL YOUR STUFF!!!!

Only two out of five WalMarts in driving distance carry MOTU, and I actually did ask the ones that don't if they would be getting any in. In all cases, they no longer carried the line and could actually check a computer and tell that, so it's clearly not just a restock issue. And end result of it, I won't BE getting them as by the time they show up, it's too late, I just got a CAR and that ate the toy budget for fun stuff.

I thought they stopped being exclusive after the first year or so?
The original launch of Origins 4 or 5 years ago was Walmart exclusive and then expanded. Some of the later Origins figures (like NecroConda) ended up timed exclusives (depending on the figure, it varied from 3-6 months, it seems). But I’ve heard nothing about Turtles of Grayskull items.

Hasbro has established a history of being willing to rerun retailer exclusives in some fashion to mitigate demand. Mattel has not.

I've been waiting for this to arrive. It's everything I never knew I wanted as a kid.

And here next to Masterverse and vintage Too-Bads.

I know there was an Origins Too-Bad. Was it a convention exclusive? Online exclusive?
