I follow a Facebook group that showcases obscure old robots from the 70's through the 90's. Recently, someone posted in search of information on a toy that they had had as a child. Some various people chimed in, and long story short, they were a from a Spanish toyline called Autotech by a company called Famosa. The toys consist of groups of either 3 or 5 vehicles that partially transform and combine into robots. Here are a couple of examples from The Last Gherkin's Tumblr page:

To me, it almost looks like what I would expect if Power Core Combiners had been Gobots instead of Transformers. Robot modes are very non-human and kind of "iffy," but the vehicles are well done, real life vehicles with some unexpected and interesting choices.
