Shrug I'm impressed to see everything pulled off so smoothly in one place. No question the XTransbots one there is way more seamless literally and figuratively, and is pulling off some inscrutable magic of its own. And if I was getting a Magnus for my shelf, I wouldn't ultimately value having a white Optimus Prime inside either like I said, and having a big hole in the back of the costume definitely wouldn't make it more desirable.

I really don't understand the issue. The transformation aspects it "rehashes" are just how Ultra Magnus' cartoon model seems to work. Why should they go back to the drawing board on things that are working just for the sake of doing something different, when shoving a whole inner robot in there already makes it different?

There is no other Ultra Magnus ever made that accomplishes what this one does.

Aren't Ultra Magnuses with an inner white Prime outnumbered by all-in-one Magnuses at this point?

I wouldn’t really consider the armored robot thing a pro or a con TBH. It’d end up similarly regardless of the inner robot because the truck ends up buried so deep in the torso and in truck mode with a couple parts flipped around

I love the dino modes but the robots are too generic mecha for my tastes, particularly the heads. THat said, the fudging of the proportions in both modes lead me to believe that these are very early concept sketches and will probably get revised down the line. Particularly Grimlock, who just stands up and swaps heads, whose arms grow like twice the size and is very blatantly the Berserk Fury.

Wow, yeah. They all have Gundam arms, and that crotch on Slag, or basically everyone's jet packs, just intensely standard Gundam-adjacent fare. I guess that's what they're going for, Gundams that turn into Zoids, but geez. Scorn Gundam looks kinda cool, got a nice G Gundam vibe there.

If the goal was to develop concepts for both modes before engineering a transformation, I think it's weird that they detailed the limbs to match like that. Like, with the exception of Scorn, whose robot arms are in the dinosaur back, they all have detailing on all the dinosaur limbs to match the robot ones. Even if these transformations could work, they'd be really boring. Such a weird choice.

Grimlock's more Sturm Tyran than Berserk Fury, but then again, it's just a color swap and a less-cool backpack version of the Fury anyway. Those are definitely the Sturm Tyran's back boosters, though.

The weird part is that they almost look like they're going for specific Gundam aesthetics. Grimlock is very Double Zeta with the bulk and the huge pile of crap on the back, Sludge reminds me of the Dantalion from Iron-Blooded Orphans, and Swoop is very Seed or Astray.

I guess it's more interesting than another set of FOC Dinobots at least.

Maybe.

I'm waiting for a good 3P 2017 RIBee Grimlock.

I'm also waiting for hell to freeze, so let's see which happens first.

You’d think that the FOC Grimlock would have been remolded into it kind of like the official one. That said, 3Ps are only just now getting into Prime so maybe in a couple years.

As for Dinobots, think I’ll commit to the IDW set. The designs are pretty dope, just let down by the colors and I can fix that easy. Sold my FoC set a while back because Snarl pissed me offf that much

I really don't understand the hype around that cutscene.

Brawn is neat as a bulbous little car thing. Ratchet looks bland as hell and Soundwave's altmode is farcically bad

I kinda like Ratchet. I like that his alt mode has vibes of a submersible, and I dig the knobby little wheels he shares with Brawn. Brawn himself is great - the robot mode translated well, the alt mode is passably cohesive and has some adorable shapes in, and the drill is a nice reference - although I kinda want to paint him.

Soundwave I have to give credit for putting more effort into getting to the alt mode than the Siege version even if the result is almost as ridiculously nothing.
