Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: it's Headmasters all the way down.
Only the first combination is a headmaster. After that the robots just traditionally pilot the next bigger robots like some kind of hugged up russian doll until the last two forms, then who knows what the hell's going on there.
Also, this thing is just about perfect all around, aside from the included flight stand being unable to support its weight. Also the drills are really pointy, making setting up the pincushion mode an exercise in masochism.

Also saw a combining Gurren Lagann while I was at the store to pick this guy up but the combination of non-canon, the secondary Ganmen being kinda lame and the core gurren Lagann looking kinda crappy turned me away.

Yeah, dodged a bullet here. For how much this thing costs, the centerpiece has to be better.
My old one is showing his age, so it was time for an upgrade.

The old one's a bit glossier, but otherwise it's not a bad match.
Only thing bad about the new one is the mustard plastic but that’s a budgrt problem more than anything.
I like the look of the original wings better but not much else. This is a massive improvement.
I do have to say one other thing for the original though. It will apparently be the last TM/TM2 to lose its paint.

I really don't care for the wings being the gummy semi-transparent stuff. Not terrible but fully transparent would have been much better.
Imagine getting so thoroughly outclassed by the $80 toy aside from like, slightly less blocky shoulderpads.
