It looks like the designer saw a modern Armada Prime in a dream, tried to draw it from memory the next day, and tried to turn that drawing into a toy.

And wasn't good at drawing.

It almost feels like they were trying to give him a more standard heroic build like G1 Prime, but that doesn't work when Armada Prime's whole design is being built like a brick shithouse.

It's weird because FansHobby can do chunk well. They should have been a good choice to make an Armada Prime.

Their engineering is subpar, made all the more glaring by their insistence on making gigantic toys.

i had their RID Scourge. The forearms were sitting on the sides in plain sight. Sure the original had the same but this was a significantly larger toy made 20 years after

some people like a scourge to look like scourge I guess. I'd still rather have the maketoys one with the cape... but it is still dumb expensive 2nd hand

and i'm almost ready to give up hope on a second run lol

That just makes it even stranger that they insisted on reinventing every wheel with Armada Prime. It would have been unsurprising for them to make an Armada Prime that's bigger and somehow blockier than the original but at least has improved articulation.

At least it doesn't matter that much anymore. Hopefully Legacy Armada prime gets an Energon companion someday.

They'll get to it in a couple years. Every line needs an Optimus after all but they have to slip in a Decepticon commander at some point.

They should just make dedicated tops/bottoms. The interchangeability is kinda cool but it results in some kibble-tastic powerlinx modes. It'd also be cool to have some kind of combining weapons or powerlinx mode heads so that the end result isn't just tall Hot Shot with red pants.

Dedicated tops/bottoms would be better. The problem is that's the kind of distinction parents would refuse to understand no matter how many times their kids explain it, so there would be kids who end up with all bottoms. Hasbro is savvy enough to know this would happen.

It could work if they were only sold in 2-packs, but that'd limit the size(and perhaps complexity) to fit within the existing pricepoints and not get much pricier than it already is.

As long as they make a self-contained robot and a vehicle it could work, with the Powerlinx form being an easter egg in the instructions or online. Kind of like what they did with Battletrap or the Fossilizer combiner
