Regarding Sky Lynx, I see everyone praise him as one of the best Commander class figures, but I... just don't get it.

I have him, but mine just doesn't hold together. At all. The shuttle and base just do not want to stay connected in either vehicle or dino bird mode. The connector towards the front of the shuttle works fine, but the connector near the rear just... does nothing. No matter how hard I try to press them together.

How is it supposed to attach? What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: Also, the wings just do not want to stay attached to the bird feet in shuttle mode. The slightest upward nudge knocks them out of the connection.

And in bird mode, there is nothing to secure the base of the wings to the sides of the body. They just dangle about on those weird "arms" (for lack of a better term), and flapping the wings causes them to easily pop off of their mushroom pegs.

obviously that means you got the RARE CHASE 'Shattered, Shattered Glass" Variant of Skylynx: The appearance of normal Skylynx, but none of the confidence.

I think I remember there being a trick to get his two components to connect securely. Or at least I have a vague memory of them not holding together until I did something different. It's been quite a while since I've handled him though, and I can't get to him at the moment, so afraid I can't really offer anything useful at the moment. I'll try to take a look when I can get to him if no one else gets to it first.

The wings are another story. I don't think mine hold on any better. In fact, I'm fairly certain I didn't even try to keep them attached, and they're just loose in the storage crate he's in.

I tightened up the tabs on the connectors with some floor polish and that worked to keep them together. Not that they were coming apart but it is certainly more secure after the floor polish. The wings are indeed janky but floor polish helped with that too.

First I'm hearing of problems with the Sky Lynx toy, but it was bound to happen I guess.

I've always been very impressed with the overall design and what they got out of it. Hell of a way to validate Commander class, after Jetfire was basically "oh, so this means 'really big' with a few more gimmicky engineering bits".

This is partly what I mean by the best ones being the sort to deal with a challenge -- an unconventional set of demands like two separate beast robots that also have a base mode, a cab that has a trailer that turns into pants or a suit (I think Armada OP really nails this; I'm not super sold on Motormaster's execution of the latter, but it's admirable and ambitious), three large beasts that combine in a wild organic decidedly non-Scramble way.

Robot folding up into cab plus opening box trailer is comparatively easy (although they fumbled even that with Rodimus, who sticks out of the trailer just enough to be infuriating), and the rest of the budget just goes to making parts fiddlier and fancier -- geared this, hydraulic ish that, add blast effects. But these really show off a greater range and complexity of designs that can be pulled off at this price point. I like that much better than "a really good cab Optimus WITH a trailer has to be above Leader, soooo".
