So the caq did a thing over the weekend. Hype party in advance of the election when the summer ends. The take away? Legault is going to go to trudeau and demand full power over immigration in quebec.
They've done this before, it is in fact: a very old talking point. They will make a completely unreasonable demand, get shot down, then pound the old nationalism drum to drive the seperatists out in droves over angry rhetoric. They will never get any more control over immigration: but they know that, this is just election pandering to an ignorant, apathetic, xenophobic voter base. The galling thing is that it will work wonderfully for them, because while they will not say sovereignty themsevles, they will also be more than happy to take advantage when the other two seperatist parties won't shut their god forsaken wine and cheese holes.
Also: The "new conservative party of quebec" did a presser today. Preaching stupid noise like freedom and unity. They hope to make great inroads in montreal by fielding a diverse selection of candidates whom we have yet to see. So here's the thing: the caq have no seats in montreal. They also have a super majority in the provincial assembly. If you want to threaten and/or weaken the caq, you need to be pushing out in the regions. All you're doing NOW is further dividing an already completely useless opposition. Go Campaign in lanaudiere, go campaign in trois riviere, go put some time in chibougamou; you ******* moron.
There's plenty of actual work that needs to be done: our infrastructure is collapsing, our hospitals need doctors, our ambulances need drivers, the farmers need ALL KINDS of help ranging from price of fuel rebates to "back to the land" initiatives, to more overt price protections to actually allow people to work farms and earn a living ******* wage. But we're still stuck on "la seperation" and "french needs protecting".
Christ all ******* mighty... Can we just burn it down and start over? It would be faster and easier than trying to fix this stupid jive.
