This comes up occasionally, and my opinion is pretty much the same. I do vastly prefer the look of clear windows. Ideally, they're somewhat tinted to hide the folded up robot bits inside, but it's not 100% necessary. Painted windows aren't an absolute dealbreaker, but I do wish they'd avoid the "Allspark Blue" color that they seem to default to. A nice glossy black or dark blue / purple usually looks ok.

When clear windows can't be done well for whatever reason, I don't despise painted, but it's never my preference.

I prefer clear windows, but I like them as tinted dark blue or dark grey clear plastic. Likewise I'm fine with painted windows if they're black or dark grey or even dark blue.

Basically I like dark windows. I just think they work better on the toys, but I understand why people want the sky blue on the stuff that's supposed to be Sunbow accurate because... that's just the look.

I've actually found that I like what ER Prime does, with the paint under a layer of clear plastic. That may not be possible for every figure from a budget perspective, but it's a neat trick and hope to see it on more stuff.

I could take or leave clear windows. I don't even particularly care about seeing folded up robot parts inside (unless they do something clever with it, like X-Brawn's robot head in the driver's seat), because they're toys, of course there's a folded up robot in there. I just hate it when the whole piece is clear and they just paint over everything but the windows, because they almost never get a decent match with the opaque plastic on the other parts and it looks very distracting. Especially with colors they don't match well in the first place, like yellows.

Just as long as YouTubers understand the difference between "translucent" and "transparent" (and ruddy well use the correct terms in their Transformers reviews), I'm fine.

There is a right way to use clear plastic and a wrong way, the correct way is for light piping and windows, the wrong way is where a part that is moving due to transformation , for example: 86 Ironhide, the robot mode looks good but the vehicle mode suffers because of the clear plastic they used on the leg panels and painting over clear plastic, at times ruins the vehicle mode paint job as it produces a two tone paint scheme from a single paint colour
my friggin ss86 ironhide's leg panel fuckin broke because of the stupid friggin painted over clear plastic

yeah i feel i should be clear (PUN NOT INTENDED YOU DAMN DIRTY TROLLS) that like my dislike of clear windows is literally like 'completely clear and transparent plastic windows', i'm fine with them when they are tinted a color because that tends to hide the total nothingness inside the vehicle

The panel on the leg of mine has cracked a bit, he wasn't well thought out in plastic usage, while I have him on my desk, for my G1 Autobot season 1 & 2 shelf, I have the Earthrise figure as he not a victim of stupidy or someone trying to be clever then failing badly

While mine have yet to break, this is a major reason I kept the "dead" Ironhide and probably be the reason I'll pick the Ratchet one up if it find it on sale.

Oh absolutely. I like dark tinted clear plastic for windows but totally clear plastic windows is... just self defeating unless it's that rare figure with a detailed interior (shoutout to Classics Prime, one of the GOATs)

I’d be more okay with painted windows if they didn’t always pick the most hideous colors for them.

I'm be more okay with painted windows if they had the paint budgets to actually paint all of the windows. (Looking at you, Studio Series Brawn)

I'd be more okay with painted windows if they still let me see the people inside screaming because they have no idea what's going on outside the vehicle.

Only if we also get pictures of people wondering where they hug they sit when the interior is entirely a folded up robot.
You provide those yourself when you're playing with it.

Of course, if they make another Optimal Optimus or Primal Prime, the cockpit in his alt mode can only be made out of one thing.
I was going to say "sterner stuff?".
