Using the Short Mask versions of the Masks for now. Will decide on later releases that didn’t have short masks, later.
For one thing, I HIGHLY doubt that after 35 years, the molds even still existed. And if you are going to have to remake them from scratch, essentially, you might as well put some modern polish on them. Hasbro/Kenner were always outliers in how long they kept (and reused) molds. A famous story I recall was that, at the end of the original 80s MOTU run, Mattel sold off the molds for scrap (which, supposedly, were melted into the steel used by the Hong Kong International Airport).Rhino looks nice.
I wonder why not just reissue the originals? At least the vehicles. Updated figures could be neat there. But are the vehicles really bringing anything new to the table, besides blast effects, which I argue could probably be adapted to the original molds somehow?
WTF is a "Short MASK"?
I think it's important to note that Long Masks were introduced because the short ones were seen as choking hazards (with good reason).
Modernized recreations. Think almost like Missing Link. Characters will be the same size, but with added articulation and deco. The Vehicles will be…probably as close as they can without treading on license issues. But will feature modern “pluses” like foot pegs, modified sculpting (the Thunderhawk has side view mirrors, the Switchblade has some newly sculpted jet engine elements on the underside), while still retaining all the old “gimmicks”.So, are these the same size as the originals, or are they scaled up to 3-3/4"?
Hi Everyone!
I am so excited to be part of the powerhouse team at TLS Toy under the wise leadership of Dina Al Rifai, Ben Montano, and Jonathan Cathey.
As many of you already know, I come from an “Action Brands” background, but my experiences over the years have also included Pokemon, Shrek, and some Anime Properties. I am excited to dive into the TLS suite of brands!
As I mentioned to Jonathan, Ben, and Dina - I feel that TLS is uniquely positioned to move on trends. Our industry is moving faster than ever, and sometimes big companies have a hard time keeping up with smaller and more flexible teams.
Recognizing trends, memes, and pop-culture moments quickly is the key to unlocking new consumers as well as diving deeper into the psyche of our collectors/kid-adult fans. We live in changing times, and being able to buy a toy, keychain, or plush to connect with other fans (young or old) brings all of us comfort. Toys have a magical way of bringing all of us together.
In my new role, I will be bringing new play and excitement to Nostalgic brands like MASK, while paving the way for new brands of the future!
I am excited to make magic with all of you! #theloyalsubjects #tlstoy #mask #mobilearmoredstrikekommand #mypetmonster #jem #popples #popplesvintage #keeptoystarifffree
