Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D-The game looks good. Personally, I'm all for this artstyle. But, we have DQ3 already, and that's probably the better game. I'm waffling on whether or not I actually want to pick this up. Also, no firm release date yet, which feels a bit strange.

No Sleep For Kaname Date-Looks like it has a interesting story. It's all very Ghost in the Shell. Might be worth keeping an eye on (heh heh).

Kaidou-Oh, they're remaking the first Devil Summoner game from the PS2 era! Well, that's a fun spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei series. They weren't the most popular spinoff, though, so I kind of wish they included the second one, too, in the same package. I'm not sure if this'll sell well enough to give the second game the same treatment. But, this does look like a interesting remake.

Shadow Labyrinth-This is the darkest Pac-Man reboot I've ever seen! I appreciate the creativity, but it's a weird choice. Still, gotta keep an eye on it, just to see if it turns out any good. The Switch has PLENTY of Metroidvanias, so I wonder if this will manage to stand out. Will this be better or worse than that gritty Bomberman game from ages ago, Act Zero?

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond-It's looking good! Yeah, I'm probably picking this up. Samus is looking a little...purple, though. I guess she must have gotten infected by alien energy/lifeforms, again. She really needs to start getting her booster shots for that. Psychic powers, huh? Hopefully, they control well. And I DO love that new red suit. No release date, though, really?

Disney Villains Cursed Cafe-Disney's getting in on the coffee shop simulator trend. It's weird that this is a trend. And it's even weirder that they're using villains to cash in on it. But, I can't help but be a bit intrigued.

The Eternal Life of Goldman-If Disney won't make a new Ducktales game, count on the indies to make it instead! Yeah, this looks like it could be solid.

Gradius Origins-That's a lotta SHMUP!

Tamagotchi Plaza-Tamagotchi, still trying to be a thing in the year 2025! Even though, it looks like a collection of flash games.

Pokemon Legends Z-A-I'm too far into Pokemon to stop now. And I am intrigued by the new battle system. I just wish they'd show us a few new Pokemon or Megas or something already. I know we have 8 months to tease things out, but c'mon! Give us a nibble, here! This is probably a better trailer than the one we got on Pokemon Day, at least. The Z-A Royale! Taking some inspiration from the Blood Moon from Breath of the Wild, I see. Attacking before the other trainer is ready feels kind of dirty, though. I wonder if that will have a effect on your "morality alignment" in the game? I doubt it. Rank Z...to Rank A. Well, I guess we know what the title means, now. That's a lot of ranks! I doubt all the Ranks will feel unique and special. You get a wish granted, that's a little vague. So...is Jirachi in this game? Still no release date, I'm sensing a trend!

Rhythm Heaven Groove-Not my kind of game. But, this is interesting, because this confirms Switch 1 games will continue to release into 2026. So, I guess the console will continue to get at least a little bit of support for a while.

Virtual Game Cards-Huh. Well, it seems like this would probably make it easier to transfer games from the Switch 1 to the Switch 2. I...think this is purely good news for anyone with more than one Switch in their family? You can only use two systems, with it, though, which is a bit of a downer. Though, I wonder if you can set up a connection with a second Switch, then take them off your account, then make another connection with a third system? Probably not, but we'll see. Another problem I can foresee is that not ALL digital games will likely become "Virtual Game Cards". I"m not sure if the indies and third parties are down for this. So, you'll probably have some games you can share, and some you can't. But, for right now...this sounds pretty pro-consumer, which is nice to see. I might be wrong, and time will tell, but this seems like a good thing, to me. It's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction.

High on Life is coming to Switch, that might be kinda fun.

Saga Frontier 2 Remastered-Looks fun. Not sure if it's a must play or not. I'm going to have to look up reviews for the old version later. I like the art style, though.
SAGA Frontier 2 Remaster- Am i crazy, or didn't they already do a rerelease of this game? Glad it's not another "2.5D HD" game, but I'm not sure the methods are doing the art many favors in some sections.
You're thinking of Romancing Saga 2 (a SNES game). This is Saga Frontier 2 (a PS1 game). Completely different (confusingly named) games.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion-A new side-scrolling beat-em-up? Give it to me. Give it to me NOW!! Yeah, I'm a sucker for these. Phyla-Vell/Quasar being here is a pretty deep cut that I appreciate. She doesn't really fit the 90s aesthetic they seem to be going for (Nova has a mullet, for goodness sake), but I don't really mind.

Wait...what's the difference between Tomogatchi and Tomodachi, again? Weird that they're in the same Direct.

Nintendo Today App-Huh, again. That seems...a little much. I don't think I'll download it. But, I'll probably pay attention to any news they share on it. They'll probably start giving away things on it, so I'll probably HAVE to download it, eventually. But, I can try to resist for as long as I can.

April 2 for the Switch 2 Direct. We're getting a few of these pretty close together! That's kind of neat, after a long news drought.

Heh, the spoiler tag means I don't have to edit your stuff down :p

MP4 and PLAZ- Again, I'm expecting cross platform releases for them, so Nintendo might be saving the release dates for reveal next week. It's also possible the NSW1 versions are still in limbo due to that dual release. Zelda Breath of the Wild was a day and date release for both WiiU and Switch, but Twilight Princess got delayed a couple weeks from the Wii launch and Super Paper Mario (THERE'S a game I'd love to see get a remaster!) ended up being cancelled for Gamecube. Then again, it could just be Nintendo being Nintendo and if both are fall/holiday releases, Nintendo might simply not be ready to reveal exact dates. Again, this feels like a very "spring/summer" oriented Direct and I'm placing even bets on another in August or September for the fall and holiday slate.

That also means that rumored Kirby remake might still be on the cards, but simply not revealed because it's a later year release.

Virtual Game Cards- I'm not sure this is anything explicitly to do with the NSW2, or simply a novel acknowledgment that an increasing percentage of games on the platform are digital, and often digital only. I think it's a neat feature, but we'll see how it is in execution. It feels very much like a way of "sharing games" but not having to deal with the hassle of the family plan, which should be a boon to multi-Switch homes.
But all your games are attached to your account, so there shouldn't be any issue downloading any you own once you set up your Switch 2.

Ok, so they got my attention after all. That Dragon Quest 1+2 remake will be mine! I also love their new take on Pacman.

I could see them doing that for Metroid Prime 4.

Pokemon Legends Z-A, though....I kind of hope this isn't a cross-platform title. I just do not trust Gamefreak to be able to program two versions of the same game for two different systems at the same time. They have a hard enough time with one, without making it a buggy mess. Just...make the Switch 1 version. We'll understand. At least then, we might not glitch through the floor.

And honestly, if the Switch 2 does have some sort of "upscaling" feature, I wonder if we won't actually get any cross platform titles, this time around? This might be more of a "New 3DS" situation. Where most titles just run a little better on the new hardware, rather than being exclusive to it. Nintendo might want to hype up the "upscaling", rather than release two versions of the same game? They might prioritize selling the console over selling individual games, at least at the start of the Switch 2's life?

Super Paper Mario (THERE'S a game I'd love to see get a remaster!)
Same. Hopefully, it happens, eventually. Or we get Wii games on Switch 2 Online. It's not the most "respected" Paper Mario game, but it's a fun game in it's own right. And it feels weird for it to be the only one of the "Original Paper Mario Trilogy" to not be on Switch.

I'm not sure I'd consider this a situation where Game Freak needs to code "two versions". From all indications and rumors, the Switch 2 is basically running on an upgraded Tegra chip, so the transition should be closer to PS4 to PS5. Same underlying architecture, but the newer one offers more power. Like how most PC games offer options to "scale" the graphics according to hardware.
The "Switch 2" version of PLZA would just have a larger cart for the higher graphics fidelity. The Switch 1 version should run, but lacking the graphical and performance the other version would have.
And Nintendo would probably GLADLY offer you ability to upgrade for a nominal fee at a later date :p

I have a lot of questions about the virtual game cards. In my house, we have two full Switches (our original launch model and a TotK OLED that I got later) plus 3 Switch Lites for my wife and kids. (And if I could afford it, I would so love to get that gold EoW Switch Lite!) The current account management system definitely imposes a lot of limitations, and I could see this being a big improvement for stuff like letting my kids get access to games that are locked to my account. But I could also see it being a huge pain in the ass for stuff like being able to play my digital games on either my older Switch upstairs or my OLED in the basement. And if I add a Switch 2, how does that play into my two existing Switch 1s, since there's that two system limit?

Just gonna have to wait and see, I guess.

It really SHOULD work that way. But, we've even seen instances of PS4 versions of certain games running better than PS5 versions on the PS5. Such as Elden Ring. Working on ANY new hardware can be tricky for developers.

And Gamefreak are...less skilled programmers than From Soft, the makers of Elden Ring. I do not trust Gamefreak to do this right, that's really what this boils down to. They need to focus on only one version of this game. Because I fear that if they try to focus on two versions, BOTH versions are likely to turn out busted. I would rather have one version that might be slightly graphically underwhelming, rather than end up with two versions that are both glitchy messes.

Honestly, I just don't think a hypothetical Switch 2 version of PLZA would actually look that much better, anyway. I very much doubt it'd be a night and day difference. I think a lot of PLZA's graphical "problems" are down more to art direction than anything else. Gamefreak is trying to walk the line between having "realistic" environments and "stylistic" character designs, and the result is a little uncanny. It's like Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, in a way. And there's really nothing you can do to make the flat ".jpg"-like textures on the buildings look better. You'd have to make a entirely different build of the game to make those actually look better, in most people's eyes.

Graphically, this game is going to be what it's going to be, and I don't know if there's a lot you can do to change that. I'd just rather get a game that actually runs well. And I feel like that's more likely with only a Switch 1 verison in development. But, we'll see.

And again, it could simply be that PLZA won't see release until November and its inclusion is as much to assure fans that the current Switch is still getting it, along with Metroid Prime 4. Going back to Super Paper Mario, the game WAS announced for Gamecube, but got scuttled pretty late in favor of the Wii port.

If Steam Families is any indication, shareability will probably be the rule, not the exception, especially for indies.

I am definitely getting Rift of the Necrodancer soon. My old hands can't keep up with rhythm games as well anymore, and I never fully beat the previous Cadence games, but the inclusion of silly rhythm minigames is right up my alley.

I like the premise of digital games you can lend out, but we'll see.

I'm very annoyed that Disney Villain Cafe is a rip off Cafe Talk with none of the credit. I hate that I'm interested b/c I like the villains and it even features Yzma. BUT I don't want to support Disney right now for their politics/policies as a company.

On a side note, browsing through the digital library on Switch, there are a LOT of games using AI art now. Mostly simple puzzle/jigsaw games with titles that include Ecchi, Hentai, Oppai, etc. There's a few kid ones with knockoff characters/styles, but the vast majority are cheesecake games. Just a heads up to be wary. The AI art is getting better but are definitely off when you scrutinize the pics (and especially the backgrounds). Don't waste your money on these. Just for laughs, here's a particularly bad example I stumbled across:

Excuse the glare, I took a pic w/ my phone.
I actually laughed at how bad the pose is. I drew the red lines to indicate the alignment of the top half, and the purple lines for the bottom half. Some people wouldn't even notice if that arm wasn't there to hide the shift.

Now is that really proof of AI, or just a sign they had someone like Rob Liefeld do the art?

AI art. I don't know quite how to put it into words, but a lot of AI art has that artstyle, an anime-ish design but near photorealistic detail and shading.
