It won't last. Twitter wasn't so insane either until the great Tumblr migration.

I can't speak to when that specific event occurred, although I'll certainly concede there was a time in which Twitter was fine, and that said time did in fact end well before Musk took over.

But even the state of Twitter just prior to Musk was so profoundly different than what it became almost immediately upon his takeover that I feel safe in saying that a slide to that level is far from inevitable.

It's what happens when a 4chan troll takes over a major social network. Things go from just bad to WTF in no time flat.

Imagine all the good that $40 billion could have been used for instead of being pissed away on this nonsense.

On second thought, don't imagine it. It's depressing.

Remember the time he said he could solve world hunger for only a few billion dollars? Which, of course, he would never actually do, because he's a self-absorbed sociopath, but.

Now instead of being able to just click to see who liked or QT/RT a post, there's a separate "View post engagements" and a few more clicks to see the same info. The solution to a problem no one ever had.

He obviously got tired of being ratio'd and wanted to hide it away - might also be a ploy to try to pull back companies that were getting ratio'd too.

The equivalent of making a suit of power armor in a cave with scraps. He truly is the real-life Tony Stark.

"I'm staying on the hellsite to enjoy all the memes about how it's a hellsite"

This isn't like moving to Mars or something, dude; they still have memes on the rest of the internet.

Yeah if he does that, that's it. Blusky or Hive or Masterdon automatically crash because everyone wants to not pay this man.

Ironbite-unless they're an idiot.

State actors using bots will likely pay the fee anyway, at least as long as twitter remains a viable method to distribute misinformation and propaganda. Granted, tanking the company by implementing a paid subscription across the board WOULD result in the bots leaving, just not for the reason Musk says they will.

Yeah but when the common rabble leaves the platform, it's kinda hard to spread misinformation when no one is there to fall for it.

Ironbite-which is the only reason why X/Twitter still exists.

Looking at the replies, this is apparently yet another one of those "Content creator finally reads the terms of service on the site they've been posting for years, discovers that it's full of scary-sounding chemicals legal terms granting the site broad rights to do things, and assumes the worst" things that happens every year or so somewhere or other. All this stuff was already in the TOS, possibly since the beginning.

Which is a shame because I sure do wish all the artists on Twitter would wipe their accounts and go use a real freaking art gallery site instead!

Agreeing with the desire to see people abandon Twitter, but there's a reason artists don't just use "a real freaking art gallery site instead." They want people who don't normally go to "real freaking art gallery sites" to actually see their art!
