With Trump we always know where the buck stops, but I didn't realize how. Looks like the deal in the works is that Ukraine can give us $500 billion in mineral rights in trade for continued aid.

Only if you want to preserve America's ability to defend itself. That's obviously not the goal here.

I remember no small amount of controversy over how aggressive the military was at recruiting minorities, with people saying it amounted to a genocide campaign since joining the army means being sent overseas to die.

So in a way, this is a victory. Two ways, if you count being understaffed when Trump inevitably starts a stupid war with either NATO, its own people, or (ideally, given that it would stretch them extra thin) both.
