The other candidates aren't going to have a chance to make their own pitches though. Whenever they manage to get on TV the first thing they're going to be asked about is how they feel about the latest daily update in Trump's legal drama. They will be forced to say his name all the time.

DeSantis seems to be aware of this media trap and has been trying to avoid saying Trump's name, but I don't know how long that can last.
It'll last exactly as long as desantis doesn't announce his presidential intentions. Then he'll have to comment on it, and if he's ever surprised by the question: we might just get an unfiltered take from defascist. Which will just be hilarious.

No, I agree with you entirely: but you also need to understand: you aren't getting the whole picture from just your little corner of hell. The stats bear it out: 70-75% of the US absolutely does not support any of the noise republicans are spouting. They want their reproductive rights, they want gun control, they want access to cheap medical care, and honestly don't care HOW the car goes vroom so long as it's cheap.
And the majority do not support the transphobia that the right have inexplicably made such a central focus:

A few months ago I could have seen that, but Trump was gaining momentum even before all this. Desantis waited too long to announce (and still hasn't), and the other candidates are, um... who? The GOP field is very boring so far.
It is way earlier than you think it is.

Yeah, in a normal cycle nobody would be running for President yet, but Trump just had to declare right after the midterms. Usually the likely candidates would just be visiting the early primary states for speeches.

Hell, nobody makes an announcement until the end of the year before the election. Which would be 2023. Trump jumped the gun because even his ego could see what was coming and he wanted to get out ahead of it. And it worked...for a bit.

Ironbite-Most people declare during the summer/fall.

It is difficult to see a bright spot when you're trapped in super small town America, especially here in the fly over states.
Moving to a *very* small town in Kansas, even to follow a dream job, comes with understanding that you will have to wade through some of the stickiest GOP ride or die people on a daily basis. On patrol I see Trump flags all over. One lady had "Lets go Brandon" painted on her fence.
Since the indictment, people here are nervous. There's talk of what comes next and it's suddenly hard to get ahold of ammunition and gear.

Trump may yet be on the outs, but he retains an iron grip on the small towns that are preyed upon by Fox News. There really is more of them than you would think and they are in positions of authority. What will happen if/when they decide to use that position in defense of the Tangerine Anus?

FB friend:
Why do people go to such extraordinary efforts to pretend Trump is smart? I've actually seen people claim that he has proven his skill at "manipulating the bankruptcy system"!

All he does is refuse to pay his bills and then let his lawyers handle the paperwork. Refusing to pay your bills isn't some omega-level business skill: it's literally what every drunken deadbeat in America does until the repo men show up for the car. The only difference is that the poor deadbeats don't have fancy lawyers.

Jim Jordon really should've kept his nose out of what's going on in New York. Cause uh....Alvin Bragg isn't hugging around.

Just....holy crap bro. Don't hug with Bragg.

Ironbite-at all.

Good, it's about ******* time. The only way to stop this from continuing is to drag all these little tyrants into court, the only way to stop it from happening again is to set the precedent for punishing it and voting their fascist asses out of office

Does he really need to participate? We know the GOP's giving him the nomination, barring his death (and even that might not change their minds).

That was kind of the point of releasing the schedule: they literally gave it to him... the last time. Not this time though, this time they actually want a choice, to prove to the voters that they're "moving away" from trump.

Like everything these fascists do, it's just a show.

Trump got caught too much, they need a new dancing monkey to distract people while they finish gerrymandering the country into submission.

He seems to have forgotten the time he skipped a debate in Iowa out of a bizarre protest and ended up losing the state to Ted Cruz. He needs the debates more than he likes to admit.

He also needs to come to terms with the reality that people do not want to vote for someone whom is racing around the country under threat of arrest to make his court dates. He still has exactly the same amount of power over the GOP he's always had... which is to say none. The acquiesced because they needed him, and now they don't. The GOP is openly proving that despite all the cheating and rampant anti-democractic action: they are perfectly capable of losing the next election cycle without donald trump.

Oh, have the trials started already? I had assumed not from the lack of headlines about him being charged with perjury.
