Frankly, I think the purple on the new one is too bright and pink, with the darker purple on the TR original being closer to this.

As I was just telling a friend, it could be a lighting thing, since light purples and bright pinks tend to look very similar sometimes.

We see the two purples side by side, and even if the bright purple turns out to be more purple than pink in person, the darker purple of the original still looks more accurate to the cartoon model's purple.

I like the darker look on that one, but I only got the original TR version as a lucky find at a Ross store, so likely going to have pass, sadly.

Honestly, depending on the source that purple changed shades all the time:

Most of these are shots from the cartoon and its almost never the same purple twice.

Probably, since TR seems to be a much brighter/paler grey than he actually appears.

Studio lighting, perhaps?

I'm kinda irked by this, in any case. I love my Trypticon, but always wondered why he was such a pale shade of grey. Didn't realize that was the OG toy colors. Or I forgot.

I'm also irked that they aren't using stickers on this one, but paint.

Would be nice if they added a few extra parts that went missing between the G1 and TR versions -- the guns and satellite dishes and stuff. Maybe a recolored Brunt.

I have my TR one fully Toyhax labeled, and I'm not planning to change it. Also went inside and fixed the tail and hips.

I do imagine some enterprising/wealthy/insane individual will buy both, take them apart, build their idea of the 'perfect' Trypticon, and then complain that no one will let them return the other composite one or buy it off ebay.

I'll think of something later.

This new one looks perfectly fine, but I'm good with the one I have. It's nice for anyone who missed out the first time though.

The tail on both mine and a friends made a weird 'clunk' and became very loose due to a shallow cross-shaped flange that didn't engage right, it would jump its track and let the tail flop. A careful gluing a lubing fixed them both. For the hips, I just added some of the plastic-safe lube (I used Rubiks Cube Lube). I didn't alter the springs. If you did you can add some space back by putting some spacers behind the hip ratchet plate to increase the spring pressure behind it.
