Looks like a retooling of tarn... but I loved that mold so I am not complaining.

He not a retool of Tarn, but likely just shares some similar desgin traits, as Tarn was a voyager and this is a leader class!
For me, he looks pretty good though, I wish they had gone for the Dreamwave look with the colour scheme with Black and orange, I guess we'll have to hope for a selects repaint to get that

I wouldn't be surprised if they retool this figure into 86 Megatron, new head, new chest plate, new shoulders and legs, plus feet, a major retool would do the job on top of the paint

So just replace everything except the arms, got it.
I mean, We've seen some REALLY heavy retools, like Quake vs Skullgrin, he's also pretty much "everything but the arms"
To be fair, there is also a distinct line between 'retool/pretool' and 'shared engineering'. If a transformation works, there's no rule that says two distinct molds can't have the same transformation design. We've just gotten so used to the practice of pre-planned shared molds that the automatic reaction when a figure is revealed is "Who is this retooled from?/Who can it be retooled into?".
I mean... if the articulated ankle fits...
Probably the one we got when we wished for a really good, lore driven, Transformers film…which ended up being the worst performing theatrical release since 1986…
