"Somehow, Prime returned. No, seriously, we asked him how, he said he didn't know. Told him he needed to start taking notes or something..."

Anyway, I guess this means no one recognizes that piece of music...

IDK, it kind of sounds like some background music from the movie?
Honestly? I've watched that movie so many times and have practically every iteration of the soundtrack that I've listened to multiple times.

This is to say that if it's on there, my brain is shot, and my meat husk should be fed to a wood chipper.

It definitely has a Vince DiCola feel.

Got my TF:One Sentinel Prime last night, and I was putting him in a line with the rest of the lineage of Primes (filling in as Nominus), and I got to thinking. Should Ultra Magnus be in there between Optimus and Rodimus? He never changed his name to Magnanimous Prime or anything, but he was chosen by Optimus as his successor and given the Matrix. He didn't hold onto it for long before he was killed by Galvatron (he got better), but he did carry it nearly all afternoon.

Well, going by TFTM's logic of Hot Rod being the Matrix's one and only destined Chosen One, none of the other Matrix bearers were chosen by it either, so they were all in the same boat as Ultra Magnus. Even Optimus said that he himself wasn't worthy of the Matrix back when he first received it. So, technically, the lineage of bearers is a lineage of placeholder Primes up until the One True King came along.

So, yeah, Magnus not only qualifies, he's the standard.

That was pretty much my line of thinking, too. A lot of times we think of the Matrix upgrading a bot into a Prime, but Hot Rod into Rodimus is the only example of it in the cartoon. The Orion Pax -> Optimus Prime transition was a product of a physical rebuild by Alpha Trion (though you could make an argument that A3 was storing the Matrix and waiting for worthy holder to come along, and he used it to do the upgrade. There's not really anything to support/deny that either way).

He's my boy forever, and that's always come with a few hurdles to deal with.

But I will always wish they'd taken a few more passes for Hot Rod's new name for his promotion to Prime.

But he did actually get some power from the Matrix, unlike Magnus, even if it did come with lumps. So, was Scourge more worthy than Ultra Magnus?
I was gonna make some joke about maybe the Matrix really didn't like Scourge and the lumps were some form of punishment for him...

...but now you got me actually intrigued aboutt the possibility of there perhaps being some real lore implications behind it, since Scourge was created by Unicron's power and later Japanese retcons revealed that both Unicron and the Matrix have opposite versions of the same kind of power, so maybe the Matrix recognized a little bit of itself (albeit an inverted variety) inside Scourge and got curious about what might happen if it let Scourge indulge himself on more of its power.

Or maybe it's a "vinegar and baking soda" type thing because Scourge specifically is not compatible with the Matrix, as opposed to normal Primus-ensparked Cybertronians.
