Random Thoughts From Out of Nowhere

Ehhh, I haven't seen Winter Soldier but the first Iron Man isn't really my top pick. It's not bad, better than most, but.

Random Thoughts From Out of Nowhere

Yeah, I probably didn't phrase that clearly, but that's what I meant; superhero movies are a lot bigger than the comic books are, so it's easier to maintain those pretensions. Personally, I've never followed any cape comics, and I've half-followed the MCU. From what I've seen, the comics seem...

Those comics aren't routinely topping the bestseller lists across all books though, so. I feel like comics fans have a lot more reminders to keep their pretensions in check.

Amber's "Well I never" attitude here is one of my fave moments for her as well. She's pretty much ruined from here out, but it's a good moment.

Mayhem Transformers Discussion: United We Shelfwarm

I've never been interested in their figures, but the model kits seem like fun and the prices are reasonable. I just never quite seem to actually end up getting any of them. I even had a custom idea planned for this one.

    Star Trek: Picard

Which is itself a weird thing to see if they follow up with in any way. I'd had the sense that Seven's general superhuman abilities were due to her implants and Memory Alpha also seems to think so, which implies we probably shouldn't see her doing superhero landings and dual-wielding phaser...

    Star Trek: Picard

I'd guess that to a first approximation, it'd be about like any individual in any society. Their brain contains the memories of the things that have gone through it. It's just that most of those memories didn't necessarily start or end in that brain. So things the collective thinks about a lot...

    Star Trek: Picard

I thought it seemed deliberate though. Like the purpose of having that scene and Seven using Star Trek words while Raffi played her straight man was to imply that Seven was a fish out of water but Raffi was familiar with the era for some reason.

    Star Trek: Picard

Yeah, bringing in Paris for that would have been a nice touch. I should have clarified about the handgun thing - yeah, I remember the scene now, I just didn't think about the discrepancy at the time. Like, they didn't need to do that, they wanted to call attention to the fact that Raffi is the...

    Star Trek: Picard

I'm not sure that anyone did in fact say otherwise. The show doesn't make apologies with quantum temporal woo or Gallifreyan regenerations or anything, and the only behind-the-scenes material anyone's mentioned, the Variety article, refers to her being cast as the "young Guinan" doesn't feel the...

    Star Trek: Picard

I think I'm going to refer to Guinan's bar as the Stavro Mueller Beta from now on. Picard continues to make me appreciate Lower Decks doing the research.

    Star Trek: Discovery

I knew Stamets wasn't originally CE, because in the original crew arrangement he was described as a mycologist and seemed to be a specialist for the development of the prototype spore drive. And not a sole inventor, which is a nice change of pace from the usual Trek approach of having this one...

    Star Trek: Discovery

It recently occurred to me that one of the consequences of removing Starfleet from the equation in Voyager was that the comparatively insular, familial, and demilitarized crew made it kind of an office show, which is probably part of why it's the preferred comfort Trek binging option. I'm glad...

Random Thoughts From Out of Nowhere

I've been pretty lucky in that I do check out suggestions (sometimes tentatively) and rarely end up getting pushed any anti-SJW type stuff. Once in a while I'll get a couple of suggestions from a channel and have to block it, but that's about the extent of it.
