Exactly. The focus should be "Trump Stacks Cabinet with Sex Offenders and Reality TV Stars", not 'random congresswoman not allowed in the shitter'.

Do people really care about his cabinet picks? Weren't they just as bad last time? Didn't most of them get arrested and/or quit?

If you bothered to read the article you're sharing you would know that they traded 4 judges that they didn't have the votes on anyway for 9 judges that they do have the votes to pass but Republicans were using procedural mayhem to slow down. AKA this is a good thing.

What do you want Democrats to do Paladin, they just lost the election and the popular vote. Trump has the mandate right now. It's time to let him hug things up and turn popular opinion back against him. Then in 2026 we can take the House back and at least make a dent in their Senate majority.

Unfortunately if it's too obvious that the Democrats are letting Trump screw things up on purpose, voters are going to get pissed off and not turn out for them. They've been boxed into a situation where no matter what they do, it could screw them over.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Quite frankly: it seems like no matter what democrats do, it screws them over. I mean: voters didn't turn out to protest how biden and harris were handling the war in gaza... and in the process literally gave the choice to a guy who would literally nuke gaza. That's a very special kind of stupid right ******* there.

*sigh

Hardly a surprise, yet I remain disappointed. I really do think that a great many of our problems would be solved or a nonissue had this Boomer generation died off earlier.

Real issue isn't age, it's that AOC is a progressive, Connolly is a neoliberal. The neoliberals still control the Democratic party. People(especially the right wing media) like to say they are the same, but they really aren't.

The ‘good’ thing about the US Democratic party from a British perspective is that in theory it’s a broad front party, with liberals and social democrats and centrists and general progressives under one roof, rather than having half-dozen or more non-conservative parties splitting votes.

Of course, in practice the most right-wing element of that broad party is always in charge, with anything weakly progressive seemingly neutralised. (Yes, I also accept that the US Democrats are still more progressive on issues like immigration and LGBTQ rights than the UK Labour Party currently is.)

We all were disappointed with Garland. He did not live up to any hype whatsoever.
As far as Biden ending his campaign, I honestly don't believe he'd have done better.

I always got the impression that being appointed AG was a consolation prize for not getting to be a Supreme Court justice, and that the whole point of tapping him for that job was that he was the "safe" pick that would make the Republicans look like dicks for blocking.

All of that is true, but none of it excuses the fact that he ***** footed around and accomplished absolutely nothing.
We needed an individual who would aggressively pursue the corruption of the prior administration and what we got was milquetoast that waffled about instead of pushing forward.

And now it's far too late.

Speaking of single-term Democrat presidents, after seeing the news about Jimmy Carter’s death I looked up his (in)famous 1979 address to the nation. It’s like from another world – a president (or any government leader) trying to speak to the public frankly, like they rational adults, and the tract about American society becoming overtaken selfish consumerism, not even left-leaning politicians anywhere talk like that any more. Astonishing.

Yeah, and the fact that the last politician capable of doing so lost the election in a landslide should tell you everything you need to know about who we are as a country.
