The solid trend here appears to be that HasLabs in general just keep getting more successful as time goes on. A lot was said about how Omega beat out the Victory leaders due to being an Optimus Prime who had media presence outside Japan. Well, Omega just got stomped by an even more expensive Victory team. I don't know if you should chalk it up to wider knowledge of and comfort with HasLab, growth of Hasbro Pulse, streamlining of the HasLab process, growing speculator markets, or something else. But regardless, the relative strength of the particular project, at least within TF projects specifically, appears to be a relatively minor factor at this point.
In that frame of context, Unicron's supposed near failure continues to become less and less relevant. I've already said before that his funding struggles were overblown, and that there's plenty of reason to believe he still would have funded without the campaign extension. If his campaign was started now, I'm sure he'd still come nowhere near the numbers put up by the other TF HasLabs, but I'm confident he would easily fund by an even larger margin than he did.
With that in mind, I'll say now that I really hope Primus does finally happen as a HasLab, preferably next year to tie in with AotP. Yeah, he probably isn't as desirable as Unicron. Yeah, he'll be a lot more expensive than any of the other options. I really don't think that will matter. I think the data we have suggests he'll still fund comfortably. And I would love to have him!
