The Republicans use the abbreviation GOP (“Grand Old Party”) rather than Rep basically to avoid that confusion, apparently.Ohh, sorry, whenever I see "rep.", I think it's "Republican" rather than "representative". Whoops, sorry. Maybe Americans think all British Members of Parliament are military police officers?
