Ohh, sorry, whenever I see "rep.", I think it's "Republican" rather than "representative". Whoops, sorry. Maybe Americans think all British Members of Parliament are military police officers? ;)
The Republicans use the abbreviation GOP (“Grand Old Party”) rather than Rep basically to avoid that confusion, apparently.

They don't usually put that before people's names either, though.
When we need to specify what party a politician is, we either put the full word before their name, or an abbreviation (a single letter one as long as that's unambiguous) in parenthesis after their name.

The Football Association will contact Crystal Palace player Marc Guehi to remind him religious messaging is banned from equipment after a Christian message was added to his captain's armband, Sky News understands.

"I love Jesus" was written on Guehi's Premier League-issued LGBTQ+ campaign rainbow armband during a match at the weekend.

The laws of football prohibit any religious messaging appearing on jerseys...

I'm generally of the opinion that using rainbow flags to signify allyship, rather than signal one's own orientation, is problematic to begin with. Thoughts?
