NO!!!

I was happy!

Why couldn't you just let me be happy with what I had?! 😢
I'm right there with you!

If I get him, that will be my 3rd version of the mold. I guess that wouldn't be any different than the versions of Siege Megatron I have, but at least they have drastically different color schemes. These are all just slightly better iterations of the same thing. It's will be really hard for me to justify, but damn if this guy isn't beautiful!

The three iterations of Galvatron I have (sold the Kingdom/Legacy one before caving and getting SS86) are pretty visually different. Movie violet, toy light gray (with the Dark-ism head), and Selects Reformatting.

I think the Siege Megs retools I've got similarly distinct, albeit a bit less so -- but iirc I only have the Selects G2 Combat Hero, Shattered Glass, and the Ratbat 2-pack Miner. (I've been thinking about the Fractured Friendship pack but I haven't found it here for a decent price AND I know I'll have a hard time finding a buyer for that gladiator Megs.)

The Siege Megatron had six verisons of the same mold without retoolling done to it, just different paint jobs, two were more reflective of the actual Cartoon colour scheme, one of those was pretty much dead on including the marks upon his chest, then there were four with some retooling done to them to create a more Earth mode Megatron or his IDW Miner look!

Has that been a staircase in the back this whole time, and these toys have been posig perilously perched precariously in a pictorial predicament to please posters in a picture posting thread who have been pleasantly passing the time peacefully unaware of this potential pitfall?
What are ya, the terror that flaps in the night?

So @LBD "Nytetrayn" and I had a conversation starting here that ended up inspiring me to do a "custom" of sorts. I use quotation marks because most of the changes were done via ToyHax, with me only having to paint a few comparatively small spots.

Anyway... in 2001 Takara had a convention exclusive called "Black Rodimus" that came to be known as "Dark Hot Rod" in the West. It was a G1 Hot Rod toy moulded in black and grey plastic, with unaltered G1 Hot Rod stickers. I realized, during the above conversation, that you could approximate this look on a modern Generations toy by taking PotP Rodimus Unicronus, peeling off his stickers (and dabbing a few purple bits in black paint), and applying ToyHax's set for PotP Rodimus Prime. Well the sticker set arrived today and here we are...

There was never a Rodimus Prime done up in the "Dark Hot Rod" colour scheme, so that was more of an interpretation. Since the original was the G1 Hot Rod stickers on a black figure though... well I figured the same would work for Rodimus.
I had since sold off my PotP Rodimus Prime, so I contemplated getting a junker for the head, to paint that black. Ultimately I decided that would be too much money spent, and too much work, for what was conceived as a very simple "custom" so I decided to keep the Rodimus Unicronus head. "Dark Hot Rod" was created by the Decepticons but became an Autobot when he was made good thanks to space magic, so in my head the Rodimus Unicronus head is him trying to carve out a distinct identity for himself separate from Rodimus, kinda like how Thomas Riker shaved his beard differently from Will Riker on Star Trek :p

Meanwhile, I really wish Toyhax would do a Shattered Glass colors version of their G1 Hot Rod sticker set, because I would LOVE to properly add Dark Hot Rod to my SG Rodimus collection. Without the purple, he just doesn't quite fit in right.

ToyHax can be frustrating because when they stick to the obvious- adding extra details Hasbro's paint budget didn't cover or adding details from the real world vehicles or G1 toys- they're always a home run.

But they have this tendency to go wildly off the mark on other sets. Like their sets for the G2 Toxitron capsule Autobot Deluxes that ruined their decos and remade them as OCs. Or yeah, SG Rodimus, where they randomly changed the colour of his flames from purple to red.

Like... I'd love for a set of their stickers to add some missing detail to my Top Gun Collaborations figure but despite having three sticker sets for that toy, none of them are actually for Top Gun. You know, the thing the toy's supposed to represent.
