If it's not obvious, the prototype colored Arcee has a head based on her outdated model while the cartoon version has the finalized character model style head.

I know there are people who will want the cartoon deco. That's apparent.

I just don't understand why 😛

Why not? It never made it to market, that could be how it would have looked between that prototype and release, had it made it that far.

That's the big thing for me. We know that the toys for the movie characters were developed early on and didn't fully match the final movie designs. However, none of them deviated as far as the Arcee prototype. Galvatron comes the closest, but that's more a case of using a different layout of the same basic colors. The orange just makes her not really look like Arcee. I never really liked the prototype because of that, and I would have hoped it would have changed if it ever had gone to market.

I.e. it's not that I really want a Walmart toon deco version. I just don't want that orange one. I'll have to see the final versions before I choose for sure, but I'm leaning away from the prototype colors.

It could be worse.

My wallet is freaking out at me for wanting both. And I was already considering a Sunstreaker and Cordon, so I'm on thin ice there.

As LBD Nytetrain notes, for all we know it could've at least gotten closer to the final release look, at least in colors. Or, at least, it's a comfy enough headcanon "it could've happened" possibility.

It just makes me happy that Takara care enough to produce these. I am excited for the prototype version but doubly so for what I hope will be a toon/movie-colored deco. As someone who loved the movie designs and toys growing up, it always bothered me that Arcee was absent. The modern takes on her have mostly been good, but for me, it will be so satisfying to see her blocky, G1 form alongside her fellow '86ers.

The pink one is definitely going for the "this is how she would have looked in 1986 if she were released" with the stickers added to her. While the orange one is going for a straight recreation of the prototype and not as if she were released as a toy, other than the rub symbol. They're both extremely lovely.

Why does the pink one have Texaco logos on her shoulders?

On a broader level the appeal of ML is, for me at least, extreme toyetic-ness.
Like I tend to prefer toy decos over Sunbow decos but I always prefer my Generations figures to keep the general "shape" of the Sunbow models if that makes sense.

ML is taking that dial and cranking it all the way to "toy" and the results are utterly ridiculous and I love it for that. The flatter Sunbow decos are... I donno... they just don't mesh with the central conceit of the line for me.

Specifically with Arcee, maybe she'd have gotten closer to the animation colours had she made it into the '86 line, but she didn't. For decades all we had was that picture of the pink and orange prototype.

For better or worse that became *the* G1 Arcee Toy That Never Was... and the appeal of this ML release is- to me- in seeing it fully realized in all of its hideous glory as a fully functional Transformer.

I'm being a bit facetious when I say I don't understand "why" there's a desire for the toon deco- I get it, certainly.
But the prototype deco is this thing that was just an image on all of our screens come to life and that seems like the appeal of this thing to begin with.

But at this point I'm veering dangerously close to telling people how to have fun so Imma stop 😛

Why does the pink one have Texaco logos on her shoulders?

Because an 86 toy version would absolutely had stickers there to cover the screw holes.

I like that they made up at least some basic stickers for her (shoulders, belly, feet, maybe headlights) it makes her feel more Authentic to a 1986 toy.

-ZacWilliam, I have to imagine if she really happened there'd be even more stickers than that, but this is enough to give the right feel.

Arcee's colors could have been revised to match the animation colors had the toy come out. But I'd give it the same chance as Hot Rod, Kup, Ultra Magnus, Springer, and Galvatron getting their colors fixed before their toys came out. It didn't happen.

I mean, Ultra Magnus' Prototype was just Powered Convoy, even like early trailer footage had him in those colors iirc.

We can probably get an approximate idea of what Arcee's final toy colors might have looked like from how she appeared in either the Marvel Comics adaptation of TFTM or in the Marvel UK comics, as all of the TFTM characters who featured in both of those were colored far more closer to their final toy decos than their final cartoon models. And in both, Arcee was pretty pink but also strangely had some light purple highlights in some places that were colored white in the cartoon (namely the tops of her shoulder kibble and her boots).

Dare I say that Arcee is better than the recently released versions of that character?

You're not wrong. This one does a MUCH better job of actually transforming between Arcee's car and robot modes than any recent updates have done.

I'm looking at you, Earthrise Arcee. Half of your car becoming a "hoverboard" is not really transforming.
