President Trump’s “special government employee,” Elon Musk, announced on Monday that he had dissolved the Internal Revenue Service’s free file program—suggesting that he effectively fired the staff who worked on the popular program. The billionaire revealed that he “deleted” the group of individuals who oversaw the system that allows Americans to easily file their taxes for free on the IRS website. The IRS-run free and simplified tax filing option had 76% approval from registered voters based on a 2023 poll by Navigator. The poll by Navigator showed that the support for the “Direct eFile” tool was highest amongst tax filers who earn less than $50k (77%), tax filers between 18 and 34 (81%, and tax fliers who are Black (80%), the Economic Security Project reported. After a right-wing influencer with 942.4 followers called out the “direct file” tax program as a “far-left government-wide computer office,” created by Elizabeth Warren on X, Musk responded simply: “That group has been deleted.”

Are accountants and people who sell expensive tax software a powerful lobby, or is Musk just a complete idiot?
I mean, he's an idiot either way, but...

He's not wrong, exactly. But all "journalism" is garbage these days. Either you're relying on mainstream media who'll kiss up to fascists in the hopes of not losing their access (and because the corpos that run them are secretly pro-fascist themselves), or you're getting your news from randos on social media who most of the time just actually make stuff up.

Well, some of them. I don't see the CEOs—let alone the hosts—of CNN, MSNBC, and ABC News going in front of a crowd of people and making Nazi salutes. Yet.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

You don't have to see them do it: all you need is how they react to it. They're either ignoring it, or trying to whitewash it. We know where they stand, and apathy is compliance.

And what is all that ignoring, whitewashing, and complying getting them?

The department said in a memo it was adding CNN, the Washington Post, the Hill and the War Zone to the outlets that must give up their dedicated space. Those organizations did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In the first round, the Defense Department said a week ago the New York Times, NBC News, Politico and the National Public Radio had to vacate their dedicated workspaces at the Pentagon.

Incoming media outlets include the New York Post, Breitbart, the Washington Examiner, the Free Press, the Daily Caller, Newsmax, the Huffington Post and One America News Network, most of whom are seen as conservative or favoring Republican President Donald Trump, who took office on January 20.

Way to prostrate yourselves for nothing, tools.

What the hell happened to the Huffington Post?

*looks up Wikipedia article*
On February 16, 2021, BuzzFeed acquired HuffPost from Verizon Media in a stock deal.

...What the hell happened to BUZZFEED????

Vivek Ramaswamy owns 8.9% of the company now which gives him a lot of pull. Probably explains a lot of it.

So DOGE aka USDS has not only supposedly had their access revoked to Treasury, they've been ordered to destroy all material pending the upcoming case. A little late for that though, considering there's evidence it's already been fed into external LLM databases.

Also the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, which was informed to stop all activity due to Musk, was also apparently looking into micro-payment sites... like Twitter. He's definitely targeting any agency that was investigating his companies for shutdown, and possibly competition given he's been pushing against NASA too I believe.

And as I've said elsewhere, Musk's henchmen apparently had full read/write access, which means it's not about the data they copied, it's about the data they altered.

Every database they touched should be considered compromised and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

The actual situation:

Bet all the Federal retirees will love it when Musk screws this up.

He was also ranting about SSN deduplication, and claiming that the US government doesn't use SQL:

Musk sounds smart until he starts talking about something you actually have knowledge about. He's a BS artist of the nth degree. It's the one thing he's actually good at.
