I'm just not sure at this point how many of those are even left. I think every single Senator and Representative who voted for Trump's impeachment got primaried or pressured into retiring. But Trump keeps finding new and dumber ways to piss off people who might have been willing to put up with him before.

He may be on his best course though. I think he could still un-resign, but if he does they'll be releasing that report. And coming back right after being roundly rejected is kind of a loser move. Not that he wouldn't do a loser move, but...

Edit - Rubio is going into the Cabinet, right? So DeSantis could make him a Senator.

I dunno, elements of MAGA are pushing Lara Trump so unless Donald personally tells him Gaetz I don't see what would be in it for DeSantis. I don't think DeSantis/Gaetz are tight enough for him to do a big solid like a Senate seat for the guy. DeSantis will be termed out in a couple years, maybe then it'll be time for Governor Gaetz.

Gaetz would probably invite a Senate Ethics Investigation that way anyway. Maybe he had better become a lobbyist.

I don't really know how dumb Gaetz is. He gives me dumb guy vibes, for sure, but he has a law degree. On one end of the spectrum, the Ethics report was about to be released and he knows what is in it and knows it is true and I guess it might trigger a criminal investigation. Resigning made the report officially irrelevant. If he had resigned ignominiously they might have released it anyway and it would definitely make him look guilty in any case. But since he was up for a Cabinet post, Mike Johnson went to bat for him and kept it sealed. If he is very smart, he maneuvered a way to keep his secrets sort of secret and can tell a lot of Republicans that it was a witch hunt.

But on the low end, given that he reportedly took two prostitutes to see "Pretty Woman the Musical", he may have believed he was getting a recess appointment.

Maybe a gig on Fox News, if all their hosts are staffing the admin they're going to have openings.

You need a law degree to become a lawyer, don't you? Dumb-guy lawyers do exist. Jack Thompson, that dude who represented Vic Mignogna...

Especially true if you pay someone else to do the school work for your, or your parents have enough political pull to pull some strings.

. . . . elections have consequences. we have willfully and knowingly damaged our standing on the world's stage. No surprise no one is going to trust us when they know the inmates are running the asylum.

Trump's personal history alone is enough to give pause. Tulsi is just the icing on a jive cake that no one internationally wants a taste of.

Speaking the unspoken policy: "Fall in line or get the hug out."

Ah, Tommy. Voted most likely to use the "I was just following orders" defense at the Hague.

We'll see what the judge does. There's a vast difference between having the case dismissed (especially after a verdict) and merely put off sentencing for the duration of his term.

When Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Fox News host Pete Hegseth to serve as Secretary of Defense, concerns were raised immediately about Hegseth's undisguised Christian nationalism.

Hegseth, who has admitted that his multiple crusader tattoos got him "deemed an extremist" by his own National Guard unit, has deep ties to misogynistic Christian nationalist pastor Douglas Wilson.

On Monday, Hegseth appeared on the "CrossPolitic" podcast, which is hosted by Toby Sumpter and Gabe Rench, both of whom are closely tied to Wilson and his church.

During the discussion about Hegseth's book "Battle For The American Mind," Hegseth said that he is working to create a system of "classical Christian schools" to provide the recruits for an underground army that will eventually launch an "educational insurgency" to take over the nation.

Ties to Douglas Wilson? This might be the actual worst pick of them all.
