Ollie's has the two Campaign Cases for $3 each. Creatures case has a bunch of plastic disks and Colorform-like clings you can put on the disks and then remove to swap out. The Terrain case has a big cardstock folding grid map and a bunch of interlocking map grid squares, and then not-Colorform...

This is basically a further refinement of the old Tokamak concept, which they've gotten to work in short bursts for decades, but which they could never sustain. (Among other things, the plasma would tend to escape magnetic containment and melt the magnets.) I presume that advances in computing...

To be fair, the massive simplifications on those molds fixes some of the wonky issues. Looks more like a Legion class version. Found the other two Rescue Bot clones, and fixed a problem with the gimmick of one of the first six: I figure Heat Wave volunteered to be the donor for a refinement...

Found these at Dollar Tree today, they share all but what's on back of the legs (and the colors), six different-ish vehicles. They have friction motors and auto-transform by running into a wall and then trying to shove through it. They actually work, too. Rescue Bots size, so I guess they can...

Yeah, those are meant to be thinned and then applied in many coats. One thing that might help is to take the black and thin it a LOT, and use it as a "wash" to settle into the nooks and crannies, to give the impression of shadows. (Normally you'd want to use a darker shade of the same color...
