Yeah, and the fact that the last politician capable of doing so lost the election in a landslide should tell you everything you need to know about who we are as a country.
Reagan's victory cemented the current political landscape. It's not about what you say, it's not about what you do, it's about how you say it and how you make people feel.
Carter was the last president who had even a basic grasp of the reality of the office. Everyone else has been winning a popularity contest with empty promises.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I mean, there's tactical genius in getting trump to actually do work... for nothing in return. They will never rename the gulf of mexico.

After all the times he's roped people into doing stuff for him and then flaked out on paying them, it'd be poetic justice if he fell for something like this.

Where is the name of that troublesome body of water between Florida and Mexico officially written down? The water between Iran and Dubai is called Arabian Gulf by Arabs and Persian Gulf by Iran and I guess most of the rest of the world. At some point Iran got backing. But one of the most important EU nations is Deutschland and despite it prominence, it is called Tyskland, Niemcy, and Allemagne by its neighbors and if you ask a random American about any of those names, they may not know what country you are talking about because we call it Germany.

I am pretty sure we can just start saying Gulf of America. Whether it sticks depends on whether other people repeat it. I don't think anyone is in charge.

I support leaving it as the Gulf of Mexico just because it'll piss off the nationalist idiots who can't bear the idea of something that isn't 'MURRICAN enough.

But really, the Dems agreeing to something is the proven best way to make Republicans not do it. Saying they'll support it is just reverse psychology.

nice to see some confirmation that the Democrats have just completely given up.

It's not giving up. It's just not saving people from themselves or their choices.

This is what the American public voted for. High time they learned exactly what they've backed. Lets sit back and enjoy the horrible education that is going to take place these next 2 years and try and do better next time.

Good luck getting the voters they need to turn out for anything in two years now that they've abandoned trans rights, immigrant rights and any kind of court reform.

And that's assuming we still HAVE elections in two years...

In 2 years the economy will likely be in a worse place and people will be burnt out on Trump's shtick, just like in 2018. He will likely lose the House and possibly the Senate.

Trumps planning on calling an economic crisis on day 1 so he can horde special administrative powers over the economy. There's won't be serious elections going forward; just the facade of democracy.

But don't worry, this is going to hug over the entire world, not just the US, so you're not alone in your hellscape.

OMG, you two.

I'll bet you each $5000 we have free elections in 2 years and in 4 and that Democrats make gains in both.

When the Democrats start adopting Trump’s policies, but promising to enact those same policies in a “sensible” manner, then they will have gone full UK Labour Party.

Well on our way with the Laken Riley act.

Now you can indefinitely detain an immigrant that steals a pack of gum!

Act is a blatant violation of the Constitution, though I'm sure a majority on the Supreme Court won't care.

Would I be correct in assuming that Kindly Uncle Joe couldn’t get any of these goals achieved when in office as he led what in Britain would be called minority government?

So he's OK with saying we need to change the Constitution to make Supreme Court appointments temporary, but isn't OK with adding more members to it even though the Constitution already supports it.

Sounds like excuses to me. He'd love to deshittify our government, but his hands are tied, you see...
