Is this dog whistling or just whistling?

Q: “Are you saying this crash was somehow caused as the result of diversity hiring? And what evidence have you seen to support these claims?”

TRUMP: “It just could have been. We have a high standard. We’ve had a much higher standard than anybody else. And there are things where you have to go by brainpower. You have to go by psychological quality, and psychological quality is a very important element of it. These are various, very powerful tests that we put to use. And they were terminated by Biden. And Biden went by a standard that seeks the exact opposite. So we don’t know. But we do know that you had two planes at the same level. You had a helicopter and a plane. That shouldn’t have happened. And, we’ll see. We’re going to look into that, and we’re going to see. But certainly for an air traffic controller, we want the brightest, the smartest, the sharpest. We want somebody that’s psychologically superior. And that’s what we’re going to have.”

Q: “You have today blamed the diversity elements but then told us that you weren’t sure that the controllers made any mistake. You then said perhaps the helicopter pilots were the ones who made the mistake.”

TRUMP: “It’s all under investigation.”

Q: “I understand that. That’s why I’m trying to figure out how you can come to the conclusion right now that diversity had something to do with this crash.”

TRUMP: “Because I have common sense. OK? And unfortunately, a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people doing this. This is a major chess game at the highest level. When you have 60 planes coming in during a short period of time, and they’re all coming in different directions, and you’re dealing with very high-level computer, computer work and very complex computers.”

Washington was won the war and was the first President
Jefferson bought the Louisiana Purchase
Lincoln stopped the southern secession
Roosevelt established the National Parks

So many people think that you get on Mt Rushmore by being one of the greatest Presidents. You don't. Jefferson was a founding father, but not a standout great President. Teddy Roosevelt is never in that conversation. You get on Mt Rushmore by expanding and maintaining the frontier. When Trump gets Canada, Greenland, and Panama, THEN we can talk about putting him on Mt Rushmore.

Trump on Mount Rushmore? Even more so than Trump 1.0, this all feels like we’re all living in a terrible dystopian ‘comedy’ film.

So Trump will announce tariffs on Canada and Mexico tomorrow and was deciding last night whether to include oil in that. About 5 million barrels a day. Recall that not only does he promise specifically that energy prices are going to come down, he also promises that prices in general are going to come down and those are all affected by energy prices. Oy vay, man.

Is he even allowed to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico? Don't we have some kind of, I dunno, Free-Trade Agreement with the rest of North America? I forget the name, it's on the tip of my tongue...

Maybe it's one of those things where there's no actual enforcement mechanism because everyone just assumed we would never need one.

Common sense apparently looks like this to Trump:
  1. Accident happened
  2. There are protocols in place to keep these kinds of accidents from happening.
  3. Only very intelligent people can manage these protocols.
  4. Since we know the accident happened, it can only be because we had less than intelligent people managing the protocols.
Surely even conservatives can see the flaw in that logic... apparently not.

I'm usually annoyed at how quickly many people scream "distraction" about some piece of ridiculousness perpetrated by our current government, but I really find it hard to see this as anything else.
I don't see it as a distraction to divert the public's attention. It is certainly a mild distraction for Congress who has better things to do, but honestly I would rather they were distracted because better things are not what is on their minds.

I see this as a Congressman showing fealty to Trump demonstrating to his constituents that he is Trump's most loyal servant.

Edit - It isn't coming out of committee.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Shame, I hoped it would. His face would be vandalized every day until it it's removed, or collapses from the damage, which is something I would have paid to see happen.

OK, you're going to have to be more specific when you say things like this whether you mean it literally or just making stuff up to vent, especially if quotation marks are involved. Because at this point I genuinely wouldn't put it past Trump to do that and even use those exact words, now that he knows he's above consequences.
Others have posted the link, but yes, he's blaming DEI and people hired for their skin color or orientation rather than the issues he's helped bring about due to his firings.
As far as the timing, there have been several handy posts showing the timeline.

Details are trickling out and I have already found that one of the initial things I found has been contradicted. But it already appears positively true that air traffic control didn't make the error. And probably no one other than the director had left their job yet. It is a bad look, but it wasn't because of anything Trump did. He will eventually know the identities of the air traffic controllers and I really hope they are white men so there will be no angle to discuss about that. But it is very likely that they don't have epilepsy or dwarfism, so Biden and Butagieg are probably in the clear as well. It appears that the AA pilot was doing just what they were supposed to do, air traffic control was trying to get the helicopter to stay out of the the airliner's path, and the helicopter failed to stay out of the way. I saw today that the helicopter answered that they did see the plane, so it wasn't a broken radio. I struggle to understand this part. Helicopters are pretty maneuverable and an in-air collision is kind of a thousand to one shot.

Edit - And the reason NTSB hasn't given their report is that there are so many things to look at and I don't understand all of it. After writing the above, I saw video and then analysis by a former blackhawk pilot. Another plane had just taken off and the blackhawk may have mistaken that for the one air traffic control asked about. It was in the neighborhood, but they were not close to hitting that. She felt that air traffic control should have told them the direction to look for the AA plane, so that could be a mistake on their part. I am not applying for an FAA job and I know it is very busy and stressful. I'm arm-chairing, but I wonder why an army helicopter doing a training flight doesn't get given a time slot just like aircraft landing at the airport where that airliner wouldn't have been cleared for final approach just like if another airliner was already on final approach.

That is how it's done. Well done California. Call him out and remind everyone that what he's signing and what he's demanding is illegal. hug acquiescing and waiting for the courts to weigh in. Tell him to kick rocks and let him run to the court to get his tail twisted.
