Oh I'm sure there won't be any adverse reactions or lawsuits to this. Not at all. . . . . .

It goes beyond what happened at DHS & NASA today.

CIA employees were told all resource & affinity groups are canceled. No black history month or MLK celebration, or any other ethnic recognition months. DEI folks are to be fired rather than allowed to rotate back to former offices.

CIA is also apparently banning lanyards that have to do with affinity groups. The Women's Council had to take down their website & cancel all events, including women's history month.

They are also compiling lists of members within affinity groups.

Serious question: how are y'all keeping sane watching things go down the shitter this quickly? I avoid social media and try to avoid doomscrolling, but...it's hard. Even around here.

There are always going to be those who tie themselves into knots trying to figure out ways to forgive and forget the wrongs. But aside from those die hards, it is enjoyable watching an amazing amount of buyer's remorse kick in.

Beyond that, I've got nothing. I genuinely don't know what America will look like next week, much less in 4 years.

Who said anything about keeping sane?

Listen, when the Gestapo shows up at my door with a warrant for my arrest for saying mean things about Trump on the internet, I don't want it to be a sane person they'll have to deal with.

Wouldn't it be the Gazpacho, if it gets that far?

All dark humour aside, I suppose the fact that I am (for the moment) beyond the reach of all this has given me some comfort, even if it limits what I can actually do. Besides reminding my American acquaintances (most of whom are toughing it out) that help is here, should we still exist (and even likely if we get annexed -- taking and holding are two different things....).

Most of this country has not been sane in a very long time.

That said; I'm an elder millennial. The "American Dream" died years before I was born, when people thought that assbags like Nixon and Reagan seemed like pretty cool guys to lead us. I've known for basically my entire adult life that the country's been skiing down the slippery slope into a hellscape, and that since I wasn't born into wealth and influence, there ain't jack jive I can do about it. I can vote, but I'm one voice out of millions. At this point I think I've just hit the acceptance stage and there's not much to do but watch everything burn.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

You learn where your personal limits are and do other things to seperate yourself from new information for a while. Right now I'm enjoying a game called Hydroneer where you build pipe and logic systems to extract resources from mining sites using water. It's kinda of a mix between a cozy game and an idle clicker.

Seriously. Learning to pace yourself will be invaluable. Keeping your hobbies, or finding new ones will be invaluable. They want you to give up, but you can't stop being a human being.

Sure wish I could see some of that buyer's remorse, instead of just gleeful destruction. Then again, avoiding social media.

I spawned in the early eighties, so I guess that makes me gen-Y. As I kid I didn't know any better, as an adult I've watched in horror at the direction things have gone. As I said in my first post here, sometimes I feel like the stupidest person in the world because I cannot comprehend how so many people think this jive is okay.

I appreciate your response. I kinda got stuck into it here because I don't have a lot of other places I can talk about this stuff, online or off, and catching up on things really impacted me. Definitely time to stop refreshing.

So much this. I'm a member of one of the currently targeted group and I'd go absolutely nuts if I didn't break away to play some video games, tinker around with Godot or my 3d printer from time to time.

I don't remember thinking I was going to have to start looking at the news every morning, but I realized today that I have been. I just instinctively knew I was going to want to see what he was up to.

I'm a Gen-Xer. I've had doom of one type or other hanging over my head since I was old enough to realize that the world isn't fair, and much of it isn't kind. I'm used to it, and most of my hope died years ago.

Also, I'm not entirely sane, and I'm practiced at disassociating.

Sanity is overrated anyway.
